Position Summary
SICE is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Electrical ITS Technician to perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and support of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal systems, roadway communications infrastructure, and related electrical equipment. This role involves hands-on field work in roadway, construction, and transportation environments and requires safe operation of bucket trucks, lifts, service vehicles, tools, and equipment.
The successful candidate must be able to work safely around active traffic, construction operations, electrical systems, elevated work areas, and varying weather conditions while complying with company, OSHA, DOT, client, and project-specific requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and test ITS devices, traffic signal systems, illumination poles and related field equipment.
- Perform electrical wiring, conduit installation, cabinet installation, equipment replacement, terminations, and field repairs.
- Install, inspect, and maintain traffic signal components, vehicle detection systems, CCTV cameras, dynamic message signs, communication devices, fiber optic infrastructure, network devices, and other ITS field assets.
- Operate bucket trucks, aerial lifts, service vehicles, and other company equipment required for traffic signalization and ITS work.
- Operate digger derricks, boom trucks for lifting operations (if NCCCO certified)
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, plans, specifications, work orders, and maintenance instructions.
- Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, emergency repairs, and field diagnostics to identify and resolve system or equipment issues.
- Support system testing, commissioning, inspection, acceptance, and closeout activities.
- Assist with traffic control setup, roadway work zone safety, mobilization, demobilization, site housekeeping, materials handling, and inventory control.
- Maintain accurate records, work orders, inspection notes, maintenance reports, equipment logs, and other required documentation.
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, clients, and project team members as needed.
- Respond to service calls, outages, incidents, and project needs, including after-hours support when assigned.
- Follow all company policies, safety expectations, quality requirements, confidentiality obligations, client-site rules, and applicable regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned based on business, project, or operational needs.
Educational / Experience Requirements
Preferred Education and Experience
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent specialized training required.
- Technical training in electrical, ITS, traffic signals, electronics, telecommunications, construction, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical, ITS, traffic signal, roadway technology, utility, or construction field work preferred.
- Experience working on transportation, roadway, municipal, DOT, tolling, utility, or infrastructure projects preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and Work Authorization
- Valid Class A or Class B CDL required.
- NCCCO Crane Operator desired.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
- Must be capable of legally and safely operating bucket trucks, aerial lifts, service vehicles, and assigned company equipment.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must satisfy company, client, project, background check, drug/alcohol screening, driving record, badging, and site-access requirements, as applicable.
- IMSA Traffic Signal Certification preferred.
- Fiber optic certification, MOT/traffic control certification, or related technical certifications preferred.
Safety Requirements
- OSHA 10 Certification preferred.
- Candidates who do not currently possess OSHA 10 Certification must successfully complete OSHA 10 training upon hire within the timeframe established by the company.
- Must comply with OSHA, DOT, company, client, and project-specific safety requirements at all times.
- Must properly use required PPE and follow safe work practices around electricity, elevated work areas, moving traffic, heavy equipment, power tools, and active construction zones.
- Must participate in toolbox talks, daily safety briefings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), near-miss reporting, and incident reporting as required.
- Must promptly report unsafe conditions, injuries, incidents, equipment damage, hazards, compliance concerns, or policy concerns through appropriate company channels.
Schedule, On-Call, Travel, and Night Work
- May be required to participate in an on-call rotation to support service calls, emergencies, outages, maintenance needs, or project requirements.
- On-call assignments will be compensated in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
- Travel may be required to project sites, client locations, branch locations, yards, warehouses, or field work areas.
- Night work may be required, including scheduled maintenance windows, traffic signal work, lane closure operations, emergency response, and project-specific activities.
- Weekend, holiday, overtime, or shift work may be required based on operational needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of electrical systems, traffic signal systems, ITS field devices, communications infrastructure, and troubleshooting practices.
- Ability to use electrical testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and field equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, plans, schematics, specifications, and technical instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew in field, roadway, and construction environments.
- Ability to follow instructions, meet deadlines, and maintain professionalism when interacting with team members, clients, contractors, and the public.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work is performed primarily outdoors and in field environments, including roadways, intersections, construction zones, tolling/ITS sites, yards, warehouses, and equipment areas.
- May work near active traffic, construction equipment, lifts, ladders, energized or low-voltage equipment, fiber/communications infrastructure, dust, noise, heat, rain, humidity, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work at heights or in confined spaces as needed.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier materials with assistance or proper equipment.
- Ability to work from bucket trucks, ladders, aerial lifts, and elevated platforms.
- Must maintain tools, vehicles, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
