The clinical simulation technician works closely with the Sim Coordinator and the Sim Instructors to provide ongoing technical support for simulation delivery. This person is responsible for A/V equipment evaluation, support, maintenance and setup, computer software support for simulation tools, as well as mannikins used in the simulation program. Major areas of responsibility include collaborating with the Sim Coordinator and the Sim Instructor to assist in the implementation and evaluation of technologies required for simulation programs using industry standards and established best practice standards; managing technology related maintenance agreements, operating computer manikins to include assisting during the simulation, related operating software, programming needs, and A/V equipment; locating and managing supplies needed to enhance delivery of simulation activities (e.g. IV supplies, pumps, dressings, etc.).
Qualifications:
- One year full-time paid experience in programming, operation, and maintenance of simulation based medica learning systems; or successful completion of a patient care simulator training program and one year of full- time paid experience in direct patient care; or current valid certification in a health related field such as certified nursing assistant, or emergency medical technician and one year of full time paid experience in direct patient care preferred. One to three years’ experience with health-related learning technology/simulation preferred
- Bachelor of Science preferred
- Current and valid certification in basic life support
- Be accomplished in using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows Media, etc.) and have the ability to troubleshoot basic hardware/software issues
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills required
- Ability to prepare and organize simulation laboratory and demonstration materials
- Ability to set priorities on own initiative
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Good communication skills and general subject knowledge
- Professional image in attire, appearance and behavior

Essential Functions:
- Set up and tear down simulation equipment and other learning technologies to meet needs of faculty and students
- Operate computer hardware, audio-video recording systems, and simulation equipment with the ability to follow patient care aspects of scenario’s and make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions
- Assist faculty with human patient simulator labs, including organization, preparation, and cleaning up
- Independently seek clarification from faculty / others when needed to promote a smooth simulation experience
- Organize and maintain the simulation environments to facilitate learning at all times (e.g. clean simulation rooms, manikins, equipment); this includes developing and following a schedule to maintain the simulation environment/equipment
- Organize, manage and store equipment and supplies simulation areas
- Provide oversite and assistance to faculty and others using the simulation environment, including working as the patient during simulations
- Have an active voice with simulation process/tools to support learning with faculty approval
- Identify and implement solutions to problems related to simulation equipment
- Repair and maintain equipment as required or initiate repairs for equipment under warranty
- Remain current with technical and professional skills by attending human patient simulation conferences and training courses
- Acquire and maintain skills and knowledge related to existing and newly acquired technologies in the Health Sciences division
- Research specifications for hardware and software products
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory of hardware and software
- Train faculty on operation of equipment
- Recommend and implement changes in work processes to improve quality-of-service
- Other responsibilities as assigned
