Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the operational functions of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in managing complex business operations, driving strategic initiatives, and fostering a culture of excellence. As COO, you will oversee daily operations, implement operational improvements, and ensure alignment with our mission to deliver exceptional patient care and organizational growth.
Duties
- Provides executive oversight of all inpatient hospital operations to ensure safe, efficient, patient-centered care. Oversee operational execution across assigned departments while maintaining alignment with organizational goals. Facilitates timely decision making, removes operational barriers, and promotes collaboration among leaders. Serves as administrator on duty in the CEO’s absence.
- Oversee daily operations including admissions, patient flow, bed management, census optimization, discharge coordination, staffing coordination, and operational readiness. Works collaboratively with department leaders to maximize efficiency while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
- Ensures continuous readiness for Joint Commission, state licensing, and other regulatory agencies. Oversees implementation of action plans, regulatory audits, and organizational compliance activities. Promotes a culture of continuous survey readiness.
- Provides coaching, mentoring, and performance oversight for assigned department directors. Establish operational expectations, monitor departmental performance, supports leadership development, and promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Develops, monitors, and reports organizational key performance indicators, including census, admission conversion rates, average length of stay, patient satisfaction, incident trends, productivity, and quality outcomes.
- Partners with the CEO and CFO to develop operational strategies, budgets, capital improvement initiatives, and resource allocation plans that support organizational growth and financial sustainability. Participates in strategic planning and implementation of organizational initiatives.
- Implement change management strategies to adapt to evolving industry standards and organizational needs.
Skills
- Proven expertise in operational excellence initiatives, process improvement, and large-scale organizational change management.
- Extensive knowledge of inpatient behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment operations.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary healthcare teams within a 24-hour inpatient environment.
- Thorough understanding of Joint Commission standards, state licensing regulations, and healthcare compliance.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with executives and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to analyze operational metrics including census, admissions, average length of stay, staffing productivity, labor utilization, patient satisfaction, incident trends, and quality indicators.
- Skilled in data-driven decision making, operational analysis, and implementing innovative solutions for complex challenges.
