Job Summary

Spectrix is seeking a full-time Associate Scientist to join the Functional Genomics team within the Oncology Research Division at our client site in La Jolla, CA. This team utilizes CRISPR and other gene editing technologies to advance the discovery of novel cancer therapeutics and drive scientific breakthroughs that are changing lives.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques, support ongoing drug discovery projects, generate high-quality experimental data, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary research teams. This is an exciting opportunity for a scientist with a passion for cancer biology, functional genomics, and gene editing technologies.

Responsibilities

Duties specific to this position include cell culture, PCR, lentiviral packaging/infection, data analysis and CRISPR reagent design/delivery. The appropriate candidate will have earned an undergraduate degree in Biology, Biochemistry or Genetics, and be able to maintain excellent laboratory records.

• Generate robust, reproducible data to support ongoing drug discovery projects
• Analyze, publish data using standardized workflows from internal/external sources
• Perform mechanistic studies for detailed characterization of targets and small molecules
• Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams, collaborate to achieve team goals

Qualifications

• BS degree in molecular biology, genetics or related field with a minimum of 1-year relevant work experience (preferably industry based).
• Experience isolating DNA/RNA and optimizing and running PCR reactions
• Experience with cancer cell culture
• Strong attention to detail
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualification

• Experience using genetic perturbation systems; CRISPR, shRNA or siRNA
• Experience with NGS library prep
• Experience with methods to determine gene expression, such as western blot, flow cytometry, or qPCR
• Experience with single cell RNA-seq or 10x Genomics platforms is desirable
• Skilled user of online biology tools; UCSC genome browser, BLAST, DepMap cancer database, UniProt protein database
• Analyze, publish data using standardized workflows from internal/external sources
• Perform mechanistic studies for detailed characterization of targets and small molecules
• Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams, collaborate to achieve team goals

Pay: $32.00 - $42.00 per hour
