Spectrum Control designs and manufactures high-performance electronic components and subsystems used in the world's most demanding defense, aerospace, industrial, medical, and communications applications. Our products help customers solve complex electromagnetic interference (EMI), power management, and signal integrity challenges where reliability is mission critical.
We are seeking an experienced Product Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Fairview, Pennsylvania. This position plays a key role in the development of innovative electromechanical products from concept through production while supporting continuous improvement of existing product lines.
The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with experience designing ruggedized power electronics and electromechanical assemblies for high-reliability environments.
Essential Job Functions
New Product Development
- Design and develop innovative electromechanical products from concept through production release.
- Lead engineering activities throughout the product development lifecycle, including concept generation, detailed design, validation, and manufacturing transfer.
- Develop electrical schematics, circuit models, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and technical documentation.
Product Design & Optimization
- Improve existing product designs to enhance electrical performance, manufacturability, quality, reliability, and cost.
- Evaluate design tradeoffs while balancing customer requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and business objectives.
- Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and product lifecycle management activities.
Analysis, Simulation & Validation
- Perform electrical analysis, circuit simulation, and design verification using PSpice, ETAP, or equivalent modeling software.
- Design products focused on AC/DC power management, EMI/EMC filtering, transient suppression, and power distribution.
- Develop validation plans and support qualification, environmental, and performance testing.
Technical Problem Solving
- Investigate product performance issues through structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Recommend and implement corrective actions to improve product performance and long-term reliability.
- Support failure analysis and customer issue resolution as required.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Program Management throughout product development.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure designs are optimized for production.
- Provide technical support during product launches and ongoing production.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure designs comply with customer specifications, internal engineering standards, and applicable industry requirements.
- Support documentation required for product qualification, regulatory compliance, and configuration management.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives that improve engineering efficiency, product quality, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline with an electronics emphasis.
- Minimum five (5) years of product design engineering experience.
- Experience developing new electromechanical products and improving existing product designs.

Strong understanding of:
- AC and DC power electronics
- Power management
- EMI/EMC filtering
- Transient voltage protection
- Experience using PSpice, ETAP, or equivalent circuit simulation software.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment.
- Because this position supports products subject to U.S. export control regulations and customer requirements, U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing products for defense, aerospace, or other high-reliability industries.
- Experience with ruggedized electromechanical packaging.
- Knowledge of thermal management techniques for power electronics.
- Experience supporting design verification, environmental qualification, and compliance testing.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Reliability (DFR) principles.
- Experience with configuration management and engineering change processes.
Work Environment
- This position is based on-site at our Fairview, Pennsylvania manufacturing facility. The role requires regular collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to support product development and production activities.
