Overview:
Responsible for identifying the technical and continuous improvement needs of assigned customer and coordination of any technical activities within assigned customer locations across Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan. The ideal candidate will be based in Kentucky. This may include coordination of both laboratory and manufacturing activities, and applicable training and development of customer employees. Provides strong press side technical service, troubleshooting of problems and provides detailed and consistent technical reporting. Supports customer’s schedule through production coordination, and at times may need to provide color matching, formulating, and small batch blending support on-site at the customer location. Provides performance feedback on ink room personnel and address issues accordingly.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Customer & Technical Support
- Serve as the primary operational liaison between the customer and Sun Chemical, coordinating with Sales, Customer Technical Service (CTS), and Customer Service Center (CSC) leadership to deliver effective technical support.
- Provide expert press-side technical support and troubleshooting.
- Perform color matching, ink production, and quality control activities as needed to ensure products meet or exceed customer specifications.
Operations & Process Management
- Ensure operational processes are followed correctly and identify gaps or improvement opportunities.
- Review batch tickets to identify rework reduction and process improvement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate production, formulation, and quality control records.
- Prepare monthly operational and performance reports for management.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives within the InPlant operation.
- Drive process enhancements that improve efficiency, quality, and overall operational performance.
- Leadership & Employee Development
- Conduct performance evaluations for InPlant personnel and coordinate employee training and development programs.
- Partner with Human Resources on employee relations matters and performance management activities.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain safe work practices and housekeeping standards.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and environmental, health, and safety requirements.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or 5–10 years of relevant industry experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and SAP.
- Experience developing and managing project plans using Gantt charts.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Comprehensive knowledge of pressroom operations and printing processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in paste ink sheetfed, or flexo
- Knowledge and application of Kepner-Tregoe problem-solving methodologies.
