Overview
Join our dedicated healthcare team as an LPN OTP Medication Room Nurse, where your expertise will directly impact patient care within a dynamic medication management environment. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your nursing skills in a specialized outpatient treatment program, emphasizing medication management and patient safety.
Duties
- Prepare, dispense, and administer medications in accordance with physician orders, including injections, IV infusions, and other treatments within the medication room.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs, assess their condition, and document responses accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
- Assist with patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations related to medication therapy and treatment plans.
- Manage medication inventory, verify proper storage conditions, and document all medication transactions meticulously.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans for individuals with complex needs such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or developmental disabilities.
- Provide education on medication administration, side effects, and safety protocols to patients and their families.
Qualifications
- Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with current state certification required.
- Proven experience working in critical care settings such as ICU or emergency medicine preferred; hospital or long-term care experience highly valued.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for documentation and patient records management.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology related to medication administration.
- Experience with IV infusion therapy, catheterization, venipuncture, aseptic technique, and sterile processing techniques.
- Strong assessment skills including vital signs measurement and patient evaluation; capable of triage in urgent situations.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including seniors, individuals with disabilities or memory care needs, and those requiring acute pain management.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration; commitment to confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
