We're seeking a licensed Clinical Psychologist (PhD or PsyD) to join our mental health program, Mind, as a Mental Health Specialist. In this role, you'll work alongside Phoenix, Sword’s AI-care agent, to provide direct member support, helping individuals build lasting mental wellness through evidence-based care. This is an opportunity to combine clinical expertise with AI-native technology to deliver transformative care at scale — removing the clinician as the bottleneck without removing the clinician from care.
Note: this position sits within a start-up team environment, where the nature of the role and program will continue to evolve.
About Mind:
People’s minds are always on. So is Mind — Sword Health's AI-native mental health program, built to close the engagement, access, and outcomes gaps left by traditional care. At its core is a continuous three-way conversation between the member, their psychologist, and Phoenix, Sword's AI Care Specialist. Phoenix provides 24/7 support — conversational support, evidence-based activities, and psycho-education within a defined scope — and escalates to the psychologist whenever a moment calls for a clinician. Psychologists remain in the loop throughout, overseeing quality, staying accountable for all clinical and safety decisions, and stepping in directly for the moments that matter most. This program delivers measurement-based care using wearable, phone, and self-report data, and is grounded in a foundation-first approach (movement, sleep, and other cognitive and behavioral skills) to help members improve daily functioning, reduce symptoms, and sustain long-term gains.
What you’ll be doing
- Conduct clinical intake calls and assess member needs, goals, and program fit
- Work with Phoenix, our AI Care Specialist, by overseeing AI-supported interactions and ensuring clinical quality and safety
- Deliver member support via synchronous and asynchronous chat
- Conduct short and long video-calls with members
- Monitor member progress using measurement-based care (e.g., PHQ-9, GAD-7)
- Identify and respond to risk signals, including escalation and referral when needed
- Document care in line with clinical, ethical, and regulatory standards
- Support development of Standard Operating Procedures to help scale member care operations
What you need to have
- PhD/PsyD in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology (Please note, LCSW, LMHC, LPCC, LPC, LMFT, and related licenses do not meet this requirement)
- PSYPACT eligibility, or a current license to practice in California
- Current, unrestricted license to practice psychology independently
- Strong background in evidence-based approaches (CBT, ACT, DBT)
- Readiness to practice in an AI-native care model, where the standards of practice are still being defined
- Comfort in a fast-paced, evolving start-up environment where change is the norm
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to build rapport and maintain therapeutic relationships in a remote care setting
- Strong technical aptitude and the ability to quickly adapt to new platforms
- This range includes base, variable and equity.
