Job Summary
The Registered Nurse plays a crucial role in the interdisciplinary healthcare team, collaborating with Physicians, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners to provide comprehensive care for VVC Student clients with medical and mental health conditions. This position entails assessing and delivering patient care, offering education, and fostering the development of a collaborative nursing approach within the team. The selected candidate will oversee patient care, ensuring the education and development of nursing staff in key areas such as medical clinics, recuperative care units, and outreach street medicine teams. This includes assisting in cultivating clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical decision-making, professional standards, and interpersonal skills to support high-quality patient services. The Registered Nurse will also play a central role in providing essential clinical services, including administering vaccinations, monitoring vital signs, delivering healthcare and medication education, and promoting preventive care for patients, in clinic settings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Administer medication to patients through oral, intramuscular, or subcutaneous routes.
- Provide patient education on both current and new medications, following the instructions provided by the healthcare provider.
- Adhere to and make adjustments to current policies and procedures in the medical clinic to ensure they align with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Conduct intake assessments for new patients and evaluate their health based on their health needs and treatment goals.
- Obtain lab work for clients as per the provider's orders, ensuring proper collection and handling of samples for accurate results.
- Supervise nursing staff and effectively manage any issues that arise in the clinic, ensuring smooth operations and maintaining a high standard of patient care.
- Train new medical staff, ensuring they understand and follow proper protocols to maintain high standards of care and clinic efficiency.
- Develop and implement new processes to enhance efficiency in the medical clinic, streamlining workflows and improving patient care delivery.
- Precept nursing students, providing hands-on education about the roles and responsibilities of the medical staff while emphasizing the importance of community health and its impact on patient care.
- Review medical staff documentation for accuracy, providing constructive feedback and educating staff on any necessary corrections to ensure compliance with standards and improve quality of care.
- De-escalate patient situations as they arise with a calm and empathetic approach, addressing the underlying concerns while implementing strategies to prevent future occurrences.
- Properly triage patients and assess their symptoms to determine the appropriate course of action, ensuring timely and effective care based on the severity of their condition.
Education & Experience:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a bachelor's degree and hold an unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of California.
- Must maintain personal malpractice insurance coverage
- Demonstrate the ability to work with underserved populations with compassion, respect, and without discrimination or judgment.
- This ability fosters collaboration, enhances communication, and supports a team-oriented approach to providing high-quality care.
- Demonstrates the ability to accept and delegate responsibility, make sound, well-informed judgments, and accurately assess situations to ensure effective decision-making and optimal patient care.
- Manages their own workload efficiently while remaining adaptable to changing demands and priorities.
- Possesses a high level of communication skills, enabling clear, concise, and effective interactions.
- Demonstrates strong computer skills, including proficiency with electronic health records (EHR), medical software, and other relevant technologies.
- Preferred: 1-3 years of experience as a lead nurse or in a supervisory capacity, with a demonstrated ability to guide and support nursing teams.
- Valid, unrestricted CA driver’s license.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross preferred.
- Knowledge and proficiency in Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar, is preferred.
- Must be comfortable working in a recuperative care environment.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Must have own malpractice insurance.
