Job Overview
The Clinical Education Specialist (CES) is an expert in educational theory with a working knowledge of current clinical nursing practice, patient safety, and healthcare simulation. The CES integrates knowledge of educational theory with patient safety strategies that provides solutions to key patient safety issues and explores innovative education for future clinical and patient safety issues. The CES serves as a leader/consultant/mentor/change agent in curriculum development and educational delivery methods to advance the practice of clinical disciplines to achieve quality, cost-effective clinical support for patient/family outcomes within the organization and across populations. The scope of responsibility includes leadership in education, support of clinical practice, support and mentorship for clinical educators, consultation, research and interdisciplinary collaboration for education and practice.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Participates in ongoing design, development and delivery of clinical orientation, new employee orientation, in-services, competencies, and continuing education programs for health care employees.
- Interacts professionally with clinical leadership to determine specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs to meet those needs.
- Provides leadership for unit-based educators, including providing train the trainer courses and supporting governance for unit councils.
- Works with clinical educator(s) and unit-based educator(s) and other clinical discipline experts to design, develop and coordinate simulation scenarios and associated educational opportunities that are appropriate for a variety of job roles within the healthcare setting.
- Interrupts evaluation data to identify learning knowledge gaps and develop learning interventions.
- Manages the clinical learning program portfolio, including annual updates and communication to key stakeholders.
- Develops instructional materials; demonstrates patient care equipment; coordinates demonstrations of patient care equipment by vendors’/manufacturers’
- Assists with the coordination of performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Coordinates and facilitates educational initiatives and activities with internal and external agencies and vendors.
- Works with clinical educator (s) as needed to instruct, coordinate and manage database for compliance of clinical certificates, including, but not limited to BLS, ACLS, in accordance with accreditation standards.
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge and clinical competency in nursing professional practice and education and serves as a role model.
- Participates and involves clinical experts in evaluative research activities and assures evidence-based practice.
- Provides and/or facilitates educational experiences for clinical students as requested.
Education/Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. BSN required. MSN preferred
- Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse license
- Current BLS certification within 3 months of hire date
- Learning Management System experience preferred
- 5 years of nursing experience preferred
- Simulation education experience preferred
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail
