JOB DEFINITION
A key member of the pharmacy department team, this position requires a wide array of interpersonal as well as organizational skills. This Specialist Pharmacist (either Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist-BCOP-or residency-trained in Oncology) is responsible for direct support to Oncology providers, assisting with treatment plan builds, patient-specific therapy/treatment plans, routing of all Oncology EHR builds through the P&T approval process, and general drug information support to Oncology patients and providers. Additionally, this role would require likely limited time with accurate management of dispensing and clinical functions within the department, and supervising technician and support personnel. Job responsibilities and assignments may vary with demonstrated skills and qualifications.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- EHR proficiency (Tanner Health Efficiency Pillar) - The ability to work extensively within Epic Beacon, to guide IT resources in appropriate treatment plan builds. Facilitate the entering of patient-specific treatment/therapy plans, and document progress via notes or iVents when warranted.
- ADS proficiency (Tanner Health Innovation Pillar) - Follow appropriate controlled substance receiving and storing protocols, when necessary. Complete cycle counts on assigned inventory areas, if applicable. Aid staff at outlying facilities when questions arise on Oncology builds/provider requests.
- Inventory and payroll management support (Tanner Health Finance Pillar) - Work closely with System Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) administrators to ensure Oncology builds are routed through the P&T process. Conduct analyses when requested on financial impact of Oncology treatment options, offering cost-effective alternatives where available. This individual is responsible for independently managing their time within the constraints of a regular working schedule, minimizing unapproved overtime whenever possible.
- Regulatory and Tanner Health process compliance (Tanner Health Quality Pillar) - Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws and rules. Complete annual sterile compounding and hazardous drug training. Complete assigned Healthstream and ASHP training modules timely. Resolve controlled substance discrepancies timely, when applicable.
- Clinical skills development (Tanner Health Service Pillar) - Attend Pharmacy Department Clinical Pharmacist meetings and pharmacy student presentations. Participate in the Clinical Pearl clinical skills development program. Future-state: act as a residency program preceptor.
Compliance Statement
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Doctor of Pharmacy - Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist or Residency-trained in Oncology
Experience: Two years of related experience. Requires a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures
