KPNX 12News, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, is seeking an experienced Sports Anchor/Multi-Skilled Journalist (MSJ) to join our dynamic team. Phoenix is one of the most vibrant and fast-growing sports markets in the country, offering year-round access to major professional, collegiate, and marquee events. From the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cardinals, Suns, and Mercury to ASU athletics and NASCAR, this market delivers nonstop storytelling opportunities. The Valley also regularly hosts global sporting events, including Super Bowls, Final Fours, College Football Playoff games, All-Star games, and the internationally recognized WM Phoenix Open. At 12News, we produce high-impact sports content across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms, including dedicated programming around high school football, the NFL, NBA, and MLB. We are looking for a journalist who goes beyond highlights and scores. We need someone who can uncover meaningful stories, connect with audiences, and create compelling, multi-platform content that stands out in a competitive media landscape.
Responsibilities
- Pitch and develop original, impactful sports stories that resonate across platforms
- Anchor sportscasts and contribute to daily news coverage as needed
- Travel regularly, including weekends, to cover high-profile games and events
- Produce, shoot, write, and edit content for broadcast, digital, and social platforms
- Create storytelling that evokes emotion and connects with diverse audiences
- Build and maintain strong sources within the sports community
- Operate a news gathering vehicle to and from assignments
- Collaborate with newsroom staff to prioritize and execute coverage
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of television sports reporting or anchoring experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred
- Proven ability to shoot and edit video independently
- Strong live reporting and anchoring skills
- Demonstrated excellence in storytelling across multiple platforms
- Solid understanding of journalistic standards and ethics
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
