- Take responsibility to drive EHS objectives together with the management team, reinforcing the safety culture.
- Partner with the Plant Manager and site leadership team to establish clear operational ownership of EHS risks, controls, compliance obligations, and corrective actions. Provide technical guidance, coaching, assurance, and performance monitoring while reinforcing that operational leadership owns EHS outcomes.
- Track corrective and preventive actions to timely closure, escalate overdue actions or significant risks, and verify that completed actions are effective and sustained.
- As a member of the plant management team you are contributing to EHS KPIs for the plant, engaging all stakeholders on prevention and compliance.
- Directs development, maintenance, and achievement of goals in support of corporate and division EHS strategic initiatives including Tenneco EHS sustainability efforts.
- Supports and facilitates risk assessment at the location to identify critical EHS hazards and aspects. Works with leadership team to create targets and objectives based on key EHS risks.
- Organize certifications and interfaces with external authorities to prevent adverse findings and enforcement actions.
- Pursues third party recognition when required (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 registration) for programs that establish the site and Tenneco’s EHS program as world class.
- Ensure environmental permits, submission of required reports and maintenance of data are effectively managed for the site.
- Facilitate and support the investigation of EHS Events (includes near misses, releases and losses) to determine root causes and prepare/direct corrective and preventive actions plans.
- Uses established EHS data processes, such as Enablon, to manage data such as injuries and illnesses, environmental metrics, risk assessments, EHS action items and other pertinent information.
- Create EHS training matrices to ensure that all training is defined and tracked to completion.
- Management System Leadership
- Supporting or coordinating EHS management review.
- Maintaining the site EHS compliance framework.
- Participating in internal assessments and audits.
- Monitoring EHS objectives, KPIs, recurring findings, and improvement plans.
- Ensuring timely and accurate reporting in approved Tenneco systems.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with the union, leadership, and hourly employees while supporting compliance, safety initiatives, and workforce engagement.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Professional certifications are preferred (Safety Professional, Industrial Hygienist, Hazardous Material Manager, or relevant country equivalents).
- Min 3-5 years of experience in leading an EHS function/program within a manufacturing environment with a focus on safety culture & employee training.
- Strategic vision and communication skills related to EHS engagement.
- Proven experience pursuing operational excellence within EH&S.
