The Department of Natural Sciences at Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in Biology with expertise in either biomedical sciences or animal physiology/organismal ecology; experience with biostatistics and R packages is also desirable. with the appointment beginning in Fall 2026. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate biology courses, including lecture and laboratory components, a commitment to student-centered teaching and the use of evidence-based instructional practices in the STEM fields, experience with undergraduate mentorship, and evidence of service at their institutions.
Biology is the largest program in the Department of Natural Sciences with over 800 majors and offers three undergraduate degrees: a BS, BA, or a BS with teacher certification in Biology. Within our BS degree program there are multiple tracks; cellular and molecular biology, zoology, ecology, and pre-health professions. As an instructional faculty member of the Biology team at a rapidly growing, aspirational university, faculty are expected to actively engage in curriculum development and improvement, student success initiatives, and recruitment activities. Teaching responsibilities will include lecture and laboratory instruction in courses associated with their expertise as well as well as entry-level biology courses for both majors and non-majors. Enhancing student success in these foundational courses is a high priority for the university. The current teaching load for instructional faculty with service obligations is 5/5.

Situated on nearly 700 acres in South San Antonio, the university offers 37 undergraduate and 19 graduate degrees to over 8,000 students. More than 77 percent of A&M-SA students identify as Hispanic, and approximately 60 percent are first-generation college attendees. A&M-SA is a military-embracing institution and is currently undergoing transformational growth towards achieving an R-2 Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity classification. This growth is supported by initiatives like the recent partnership with Texas A&M University Health Science Center and University Health, which aims to expand education pathways and research opportunities in high-demand health sciences disciplines, especially in a historically underserved region.
This is a term limited one-year position anticipated to start as soon as possible with an end date of May 31, 2027.
Job Responsibilities
Teach the equivalent of 30 course credits per academic year (5/5 teaching load) in Biology courses, including introductory biology courses for majors and non-majors as well as some upper division courses in their area of expertise.
Attendance and participation in programmatic and departmental meetings.
Active participation in curriculum enhancement and development.
Required Education and Experience:
A MS in Biology with a specialization in either biomedical sciences or animal physiology/organismal ecology.
Experience teaching introductory/foundational biology courses at the college level.
Evidence of developing and implementing innovative pedagogical approaches to teaching in the STEM fields.
Excellent skills in interaction and communication with students, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Education and Experience:
A Ph.D. in Biology with a specialization in either field listed above.
Experience teaching upper division lecture courses in their field of expertise.
Prior experience mentoring or advising students, particularly in STEM fields.
Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, D2L) and instructional technology.
Experience in course or curriculum development.
Commitment to departmental service and student engagement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to complete tasks and work cooperatively with others.
Strong self-discipline and ability to work independently.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
