Title: Research Assistant, Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for National Security
Reports to: Director, Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for National Security
Job Summary: The Research Assistant provides exceptional research and administrative support to the Allison Center. This position is responsible for assisting staff in researching papers, conducting projects, and organizing and managing internal and external events, conferences, roundtables, and meetings relating to Allison Center policy priorities. The Research Assistant supports the Director through managing schedules, meeting itineraries, travel arrangements, expenses, briefing materials, and aiding in the development of policy papers. The Research Assistant is comfortable in a fast-paced environment, exercises sound judgement, coordinates multiple, time-sensitive projects/priorities, and is a well-organized, detail-oriented member of the team.
Job Duties:
- Support Allison Center staff by assisting in writing and preparing materials for Allison Center weekly newsletters, correspondence, internal reports, and policy briefings.
- Represent the department and Director at internal Heritage events and organize and coordinate logistics including invitations, catering, AV support, and other needs.
- Assist the Director with preparing the department budget and administering the day-to-day execution of the budget.
- Provide administrative support, including scheduling, booking travel arrangements, preparing activity and expense reports, maintaining department files, databases, and contact lists, and supporting special projects.
- Assist in overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Allison Center interns.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director including research projects.
Qualifications:
Education: BA/BS in relevant field required
Experience: Some relevant experience
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
Technology: Microsoft Suite

- Promote policies consistent with Heritage’s priorities; speak with one voice.
- Possess excellent organizational, planning, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of transatlantic and national defense policy issues.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to self-organize, multi-task, maintain strong attention to detail.
- Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Benefits and Salary:
The Heritage Foundation offers a highly competitive benefits package that includes, but is not limited to, best-in-class health care, vision, and dental insurance, employer-sponsored retirement funding, “take what you need” PTO and sick leave, 14 weeks of paid leave for new moms and 6 weeks of paid leave for new dads, among other programs.
The salary range for this role is $55,000 - $60,000 annually. This range is a good-faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
