Job Summary
The Assistant Coach will recruit, coach, and mentor responsible and academically driven student athletes for the program. The assistant coach will assist the head coach in all facets of the program, including conducting daily practices during the team and individual segments.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Execute a successful recruitment and retention plan.
- Recruit student-athletes who fit the culture academically and athletically.
- Aid in scheduling, planning, and supervising practices and competitions.
- Assist in planning team and individual travel.
- Assist in developing and maintaining the operating budget.
- Assist with fundraising and team social media.
- Help administer all aspects of the program, ensuring compliance with departmental, institutional, Lone Star Conference, and NCAA DII rules and regulations.
- Participate in alumni and booster engagement, including promotion of the program on social media platforms.
- Submit all receipts and budget reports on time as directed by the Director of Athletics.
- Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes.
- Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student athletes.
- Establish and ensure a safe environment for student athletes.
- Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all athletics staff members and student athletes.
- Help develop a competitive program within the Lone Star Conference with the goal of postseason participation.
- Promote the team and Patriot Athletic programs within the University community, Tyler, and East Texas.
- Assist with organizing camps.
- Assist with athletic facility maintenance as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
- Three (3) years of successful coaching experience and/or college playing experience.
- Related experience may be substituted for the required education.
- Must maintain certification in first aid/CPR/AED throughout the entire appointment.
- Texas Driver's License within two (2) months of employment
Preferred Education/Experience
- Successful coaching experience at Division I or DII.
- Working knowledge of NCAA DII rules.
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Basic knowledge of computers, including databases.
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must possess strong public relations and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and professionally with the University community, outside community, and the press.
- Must possess a commitment to student learning and success, as well as a dedication to growth, development, innovation, and improvement.
- Must possess sensitivity to background of all student athletes.
- Must possess commitment and the capability to abide by NCAA and Conference rules. Must be dependable, reliable, and punctual.
- Ability to manage staff.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
