- Manage a repository of pricing arrangements and representative matters for the areas of law for which the firm is engaged. Over time this set of data should be used in the deciding of future engagements.
- Provide client reporting to comply with client or internal requirements or support client relationship meetings, internal team meetings or pitches. This is intended to be done in a standardized manner where it is not a drag on resources. Assist in preparing presentations, making decisions, preparing reports, etc.
- Supervise Rate Analyst/Rate Manager with respect to entering and maintaining rates in Aderant. Work with the billing department to maintain the integrity of billing rates and in both Aderant and e-billing platforms.
- Lead the firm’s profit initiative which is aimed at identifying clients that are not profitable and work with firm management on a strategy to return client to acceptable profitability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and/or Experience
- B.S. or B.A. in Business or Accounting required.
- 10+ years of total experience with at least 5 in a pricing related function.
- Experienced in preparing and presenting financial modeling, including the tools used, such as Excel or other advanced modeling tools.
- Experience working with data, including databases, large spreadsheets/datasets; and use of SQL to produce datasets for modeling.
- Must have experience reading and interpreting financial statements.
- Must have experience working directly with management and in a capacity where management solicits their opinions or recommendations.
- Experience in professional services industry preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities, or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations through some other combination of skills and abilities.
- The individual will develop a working knowledge of the time and billing system data and be able to manipulate it for the purpose of producing requested information. This data includes but is not limited to the following: working versus billing attorney reporting, fees versus costs, rate structures, offices and practice groups, realization and profitability.
- The individual will have an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel including the following: sorting, filtering, subtotals, various functions and charts/graphs. The individual may have knowledge of databases (e.g. Microsoft Server) or other reporting software (e.g. Tableau, Power BI).
- The individual will have a working understanding of a) data types and functions, specifically including text and lookup functions and b) data structures, including the concept of tables, queries, reports, etc.
- The individual will be capable of interpreting financial statements and identifying questions, potential issues as well as a means to determine possible solutions.
- This individual will be able to set reasonable expectations and yet be flexible to changing priorities. He or she will use communications to manage changing deadlines. He or she will establish quality review processes to be sure that data is correct and relevant to the project.
- This person will act as part of a team and help out whenever possible, keeping in mind that the priority is for the team to deliver timely and accurately.
- Ability to work with, cooperate with and develop working relationships between various departments, Firm personnel and clients.
- Must use good judgment in maintaining confidential information and in communicating with others throughout the firm.
- Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette are mandatory.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
- Possesses interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with a diverse group of employees.
- Ability to handle tasks under pressure.
- Ability to adjust work schedule to work other hours, as required.
- This position requires the employee to work at a specified location and hours determined by the Manager for the benefit of the department and firm. Changes to the location and/or scheduled hours must be approved by the Manager.
- CPA or MBA preferred but not required.
- As this function provides information to many lawyers and management of the firm it is reasonable to expect a combination of routine requests, mundane or complex requests, and last-minute requests. It may also include projects not suitable for other individuals and/or functions due to needed skills and/or confidentiality.
Compensation is determined upon the market in which the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience and skills of the applicant, and other job-related factors. The estimated salary ranges for these locations are the following: Cleveland is $148,000 to $185,000, Chicago is $156,000 to $195,900, and New York is $175,000 to $219,000.
