The Device Team at Tools for Humanity is responsible for all aspects of driving the Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Logistics, Physical Security, Field Operational Compliance, and Technical Support of our world-class hardware devices reaching billions of people globally. About the Role
We are looking for a UX Design Lead to own the end-to-end user experience for our biometric iris-verification ecosystem. This role spans the full journey of both the person being scanned and the device operator who facilitates verification across a global deployment environment. You will shape every touchpoint—physical, digital, audio, and environmental—and ensure a seamless, intuitive, and trustworthy experience.
As a senior member of the Design Lab, you will drive research, concept development, new product introduction, and ongoing support for millions of in-field devices. You will work closely with industrial design, hardware engineering, software, research, operations, and leadership to bring world-class experiences to life.
What You’ll Own
- End-to-End Experience
- Define and evolve the complete experience for participants and operators across all contexts of use.

- Plan and conduct user research with participants, operators, and deployment partners.

Translate insights into product requirements, prototypes, service flows, and design guidelines.

New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Lead UX development from concept through launch for new hardware and software products.

Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure intent is preserved through build stages.

In-Field Sustaining
- Monitor the performance of the end-to-end experience in real-world deployments.
- Drive iterative improvements to flows, instructions, cues, and physical artifacts based on data and field feedback.
What You’ll Bring
7+ years of UX, service design, or multi-modal experience design, ideally with hardware + software products.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end systems thinking and multi-touchpoint experience design.
- Expertise in designing experiences that blend physical, digital, and sensory inputs.
- Hands-on prototyping skills (Figma, motion, audio, physical mockups).
- Ability to lead research, synthesize complex data, and drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
- Experience working closely with hardware engineering, ID, firmware, and product teams is a plus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative environment with high ambiguity.
Pay transparency statement (for CA and NY based roles):
The reasonably estimated salary for this role at TFH in San Francisco ranges from $200,000 - $235,000, plus a competitive long term incentive package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
