Position Overview:
The Maintenance Planner supports the plant maintenance function by developing detailed job plans and advance work schedules to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of maintenance activities. The position requires strong technical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills. The Maintenance Planner works closely with maintenance personnel, operations, vendors, and contractors and reports directly to the Plant Maintenance Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct field inspections to define maintenance job scopes and determine labor, materials, tools, equipment, and safety requirements.
- Develop detailed maintenance job plans containing all necessary information to support efficient scheduling, assignment, and execution of work.
- Create, maintain, and utilize plant history, equipment records, and technical files to anticipate issues and minimize job delays.
- Perform purchasing and requisitioning duties as required, including coordination with vendors and suppliers.
- Stage materials, parts, and special tools to ensure work readiness prior to job execution.
- Review and evaluate completed job feedback to improve future maintenance planning and execution.
- Maintain familiarity with current safety rules, regulations, and best practices and ensure compliance with job plans.
- Utilize Maintenance Connection and other computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and computer applications to support maintenance operations.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to maintenance personnel as required.
- Prepare reports related to maintenance planning, scheduling, and performance metrics.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or technical training in industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
Work Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in industrial maintenance, maintenance planning, or a related technical role in a manufacturing or processing environment.
- Experience in a food or dairy processing facility is preferred.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance of a modern dairy or industrial manufacturing plant.
- Knowledge of large industrial equipment such as fans, pumps, and valves, including associated components such as bearings and actuators.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and appropriate precautions applicable to maintenance activities.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to apply technical knowledge to identify equipment problems and develop appropriate job plans efficiently.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations related to estimating, planning, and purchasing.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from drawings, manuals, catalogs, reports, and technical documentation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with operators, vendors, contractors, peers, supervisors, and management.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to use common office equipment such as computers, copiers, telephones, and fax machines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to move throughout the plant to observe and inspect equipment.
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, stoop, squat, kneel, and climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform fine motor tasks, including grasping and manipulating small objects.
- Ability to crawl on hands and knees to access equipment.
- Ability to work safely in confined spaces and at exposed heights up to 250 feet with appropriate protective equipment.
