Dental Assistant

Job Summary
The Dental Assistant works under the direct supervision of the dentist to provide prophylaxis, sealants, exposing radiographs, taking impressions, pouring models, along with other expanded dental functions. Duties include but are not limited to patient care management and execution of administrative and dental procedures. This is NOT a remote position.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains a transparent, effective relationship with the Dentist, Dental Director, Clinical Manager, Center Manager, and/or Mobile Unit Manager in addition to supporting the organization’s activities
- Fosters an environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the company’s mission, vision, and values
- Adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice and recognizes and responds to routine dental care and dental emergencies
- Performs various tasks to include: Preparing patients for the dentist’s care, chairside assisting for procedures, observing and reporting patient symptoms, administer basic first aid to include use of the automated external defibrillator (AED), cleaning dental chairs, operating various office dental equipment, etc.
- Prepares and breakdown dental instruments for in-office procedures and sterilization
- Takes x-rays, photos, and digital scans
- Supports communication between dental and administrative teams
- Responds to patient inquires in person, telephone, and/or via EHR
- Ensures compliance with regulatory and Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) requirements
- Adheres to universal precautions at all times
- Attends required organization meetings and departmental meetings
- Performs front and back office administrative duties, including answering and performing telephone calls and responding to correspondence requests and tasks (via mail, fax, email, EHR) in a timely manner
- Complies with infection control standards for ambulatory health care organizations and adheres to infection control policies/procedures. Including standard precautions using personal protective equipment
- Ensures and upholds customer service initiatives
- Acts as a first level contact for the providers and support staff when troubleshooting issues
- Ensures patients are properly checked in/checked out for visits via the electronic medical record (EMR) and depart with required paperwork
- Schedules patients as needed for follow up appointments
- Ensures patient documentation is recorded in the EMR, including third party patient documentation that needs to be collected and scanned
- Participates as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care in a safe manner
- Maintains cleanliness of the unit, restocks supplies, and assists with supply orders
- Supports after-hours or weekend events that may be scheduled (as needed)
- Maintains knowledge of emerging trends and updates in dental operations
- Adheres to all HIPAA and confidentiality laws as appropriate
- Travel as necessary using personal vehicle (must maintain current auto insurance at own expense)

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
- Registered by the American Medical Technologists, Preferred
- Completion of Medical Assistant Training, Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent, Required
Experience:- Minimum of one (1) year of related work experience, Preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Ex. Word, Outlook)
- Experience with Epic, Preferred
- Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or community health experience, preferred
Licenses or Certifications:- Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) license
- Expanded Functions Dental Assistant certification, Preferred
Criminal Background Clearance:- True Health is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n), and partners with agencies that require criminal background checks. True Health has established policies and procedures that may influence the overall employment process, hiring, and “just cause” for the termination of employees. An employee’s career could be shortened if there is a violation of any policies and procedures.
Prohibited criminal behavior is defined in Florida Statute (F.S.) 408.809. Any employee arrested for any offense outlined in the F.S.408.809 will be immediately suspended and remain suspended until the charges are disposed of in court. The employee will be terminated for an arrest or conviction of any violation listed above.
DRUG/ALCOHOL SCREENINGS
A post-offer drug and alcohol screen is a requirement for employment. Failure to successfully pass the drug/alcohol screen will be cause for the offer to be rescinded. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol screenings throughout the duration of their employment with True Health. If an employee fails to pass the drug/alcohol screening, then this shall become grounds for discipline up to and including immediate termination.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The employee is subject to prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- The employee is subject to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and move or lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
- The employee is required to use close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus.
- A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The employee will work as the needs of the operation require. Normal work days and hours are Monday through Thursday, 8am – 6pm and Fridays, 8am – 12pm; however, there will be times when the employee will need to come in or work on “off hours” or “off days” to meet the needs of the position.
