Project Manager/Program Manager
Overview of the Role
As a global pioneer in the semiconductor foundry industry since 1987, TSMC drives innovation that powers the world. Join TSMC North America, our dedicated regional sales and services organization, where we empower customers to achieve silicon success through cutting-edge technologies and manufacturing excellence. At TSMC North America, we invest in our employees' growth, offering robust training and career development opportunities to foster a team dedicated to excellence.
We are seeking a highly experienced, proactive Project/Program Manager to augment our dynamic Field Technical Solutions (FTS) team in San Jose, CA. In this pivotal role, you will directly enable our leading semiconductor customers to achieve their product goals utilizing TSMC's innovative technologies. You will serve as a critical problem solver, leveraging deep technical expertise to understand complex customer challenges and collaboratively drive innovative solutions. Our mission is to ensure every customer tape-out is on-time, and first time right, directly contributing to the creation of amazing products. You will collaborate closely with customers across North America and worldwide, partnering with local sales teams and TSMC Headquarters in Taiwan.
While this role historically maintained a heavy automotive focus, it has strategically expanded to drive customer success across our most aggressive and emerging growth sectors: Integrated Power Management (PMIC), Robotics, Physical AI, and Embedded Memory (MRAM/RRAM). Acting as a trusted technical advisor, you will collaborate closely with key accounts (including industry giants in AI accelerators, DSP processors, and power electronics) to ensure execution on TSMC’s advanced and specialty nodes (ranging from mature power nodes to advanced A14/Nanosheet).
Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement & Relationship Building: Build and nurture strong, trusted relationships with key customers, deeply understanding their product roadmaps, technical needs, and business objectives. Act as a primary technical interface, proactively identifying challenges and providing strategic guidance.
- Technical Problem Solving & Solution Architecture: Lead the investigation and resolution of complex technical issues related to TSMC's advanced and specialty technologies (e.g., Nanosheet, FinFET, Silicon Photonics, Power Management, and Embedded Memory). Enable customers with world-class design methodologies, EDA flows, IP, spice models, and PDKs.
- Power & Specialty Technology Advocacy: Serve as a key technical backup and domain expert in integrated Power Management (PMIC) and Analog/Mixed-Signal (AMS) technologies, supporting established accounts in the automotive, physical AI, hyperscaler and consumer spaces.
- Drive Emerging Technologies: Partner with customers developing next-generation architectures, including vertical power delivery, physical AI accelerators and digital signal processors.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership: Collaborate extensively with internal TSMC domain experts in North America and Taiwan (R&D, Design Enablement, Process Integration, EDA, IP) to bring comprehensive solutions to customers. Drive and manage cross-functional task forces to address critical customer issues, align roadmap milestones, and ensure efficient project execution. Collect and synthesize customer feedback, advocating for their needs and influencing TSMC's technologies and services.
- Technical Enablement & Communication: Deliver technical training, presentations, and documentation to customers on TSMC technologies, design best practices, and new offerings. Ensure clear, accurate, and impactful communication, both externally with customers and internally across TSMC teams. Effectively present technical concepts and solutions to diverse audiences, from design engineers to executive leadership.
What Success Looks Like
- First 90 Days: Build deep familiarity with TSMC’s internal technology platforms, design flows, and PDKs. Establish relationships with internal R&D teams and begin acting as a reliable, hands-on technical backup for our core Power and PMIC accounts.
- 6 Months: Take full ownership of assigned customer programs. Successfully guide customers through complex design phases, proactively resolving EDA, IP, and silicon-interaction issues.
- 1 Year: Drive continuous efficiency improvements in how we support customers. Establish yourself as a strategic, out-of-the-box thinker bridging the gap between advanced Power technologies and cutting-edge AI/Robotics hardware.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering, or a highly related technical discipline.
- Experience: 15+ years of progressive experience in the semiconductor industry, spanning hands-on IC design, applications engineering, or technical program/product management.
- Customer-Facing Leadership: Direct experience in a customer-facing Field Application Engineering (FAE) or Field Technical Support (FTS) role within a semiconductor company. Proven technical program management skills, including experience in leading complex cross-functional initiatives, defining milestones, tracking progress, and managing risks.
- Power & Analog/Mixed-Signal (AMS) Expertise: Strong foundational knowledge of Power Management ICs (PMIC), power delivery networks, controllers, and analog/mixed-signal design flows.
- Emerging Tech & AI Hardware: Familiarity with or exposure to architectures powering Robotics / Physical AI, high-speed communications, or advanced processors (AI accelerators).
- Foundry & Design Enablement Flow: Solid understanding of the IC design flow (from RTL to GDSII), including PDKs, standard cell libraries, IP integration, and EDA tool suites (Cadence, Siemens, Synopsys, etc.) at various process nodes.
- Nice-to-Have / Differentiating Skills:
- Knowledge of emerging memory technologies such as MRAM and RRAM.
- Knowledge of automotive AEC-Q100 process qualification and ISO26262 safety certification.
- Knowledge of high-speed communications for data centers / hyperscalers.
- Experience with advanced packaging technologies (WoW, CoWoS, InFO, 3DFabric).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
- Twelve years of progressive industry experience in semiconductor technology development, IC design, design enablement, or field application engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with customers, understand their technical challenges, and drive solutions.
- Understanding of advanced CMOS processes (FinFET and, ideally, Nanosheet) and the full IC product development cycle.
- Proven hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Power Management and Analog/Mixed-Signal design, verification, or characterization.
- Digital design, physical design, or library development
- PDK development or physical verification.
- DTCO (Design Technology Co-Optimization).
- Self-motivated, innately curious, with a passion for continuous learning, and a strong drive to solve complex problems.
