UBMD Pediatrics is one of 18 practice plans within UBMD Physicians’ Group, the single largest medical group in Western New York. We provide premier health care to infants, children, adolescents and adults. In addition to primary care pediatrics, we have 18 pediatric subspecialties. Our physicians make up the academic teaching faculty within the Department of Pediatrics at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo and at Oishei Children’s Hospital. Key Responsibilities
This position is designed as a hybrid clinical, inpatient and outpatient, role supporting multiple strategic programs within the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. Clinical responsibilities include Cystic Fibrosis program care coordination, outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, telehealth visits, and quality improvement activities. The role is expected to enhance patient access, improve continuity of care, support nationally accredited programs, and contribute to the continued growth of the Division
Clinical Practice
- Perform histories, physical examinations, assessment, diagnosis, and management of pediatric pulmonary disorders.
- Order and interpret diagnostic testing and prescribe therapies.
- Provide inpatient consultations, outpatient follow-up, and telehealth services.
- Document clinical encounters in the electronic medical record.
Cystic Fibrosis Program
- Coordinate multidisciplinary CF clinics.
- Monitor CFTR modulator therapy and annual surveillance.
- Support registry, quality improvement, accreditation, prior authorizations, and family education.
BPD and Home Ventilator Programs
- Coordinate post-NICU follow-up, oxygen and ventilator management, discharge planning, caregiver education, and collaboration with DME vendors and home nursing.
- Pulmonary Triage
- Provide telephone triage, medication refills, review laboratory and imaging results, and coordinate urgent evaluations.
Program Development
- Participate in quality improvement, program development, protocol implementation, and education of learners.
Performance Requirements:
- Skill in oral and written communication including interviewing to gather medical histories; providing presentations, consultations, facilitation, and documentation, e.g., writing medical orders, patient education materials, and medical record updates. May require skill in using computerized health information management systems.
- Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking, and other organizational matters.
- Skill in modifying methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide appropriate nursing care and in initiating appropriate emergency response and investigatory procedures.
- Ability to analyze complex data and draw conclusions.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff, and the public.
Qualifications
NY State Board Certified
Education: BSN required, MSN preferred. Successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner (general or specialized) from an approved pediatric nurse practitioner program.
Experience: Minimum three years of professional experience in a Pediatric clinic setting.
Other Requirements: Current state registered nurse license. Current state license as an advanced registered nurse practitioner with prescriptive authority. Current CPR certification.
