Assistant Program Director
Schedule: 20-25 approx. hours per week/ IN PERSON/ STATEN ISLAND, NY
Job Type: Part Time

Reports To: Program Director, Director of School-Based Programs & Director of Operations
Pay Rate Range: $25-$30 per hour
(*based on city, state and/ or federal contractual obligations and budgetary allowances)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Program Director will work directly under the supervision of the Program Director and Director of School-Based Programs. The Assistant Program Director will be responsible for the daily oversight of program and facility operations in addition to staff supervision. The Assistant Program Director should be familiar with a wide variety of social services and available community resources, with a passion for community outreach, strong attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Employees are responsible for complying with all UAU standards.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Assist in overseeing program staff, daily operations, participant services, and program implementation to ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assume Program Director responsibilities in their absence, ensuring continuity of operations and service delivery.
- Coordinate and support meetings, workshops, staff trainings, and parent engagement events.
- Maintain accurate participant, staff, and program records through data entry and file management.
- Supervise staff and participants to ensure a safe, positive, and productive environment.
- Manage participant arrival and dismissal procedures in accordance with established safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, school personnel, and community stakeholders.
- Model and promote age-appropriate social, emotional, and physical development among participants.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques and address disciplinary concerns appropriately.
- Serve as a positive role model and demonstrate professional leadership to staff and participants.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and required training opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, licensing, and funding agency regulations.
- Assist in maintaining efficient departmental workflows and daily operations.
- Support staff supervision, coaching, retraining, and performance improvement efforts.
- Monitor adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Develop and oversee staff schedules, work assignments, and timesheet approvals.
- Foster collaborative relationships with school administrators, faculty, families, and community partners.
- Maintain open communication channels between the organization, school administration, parents, and staff.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required: 1-2 years supervisory experience
- Required: 2+ years of experience working with school-aged children
- Required: Associates degree. Bachelors degree, preferred.
- Must be culturally competent - ability to understand, be sensitive to the needs of, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with all regulations, policies, and requirements established by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, New York City Department of Education, and New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws governing youth development, educational, and community-based programs.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent employee rapport and community leadership.
- Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer usage, i.e., Windows, Microsoft Suite, Google Apps (drive, sheets, docs) etc..
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently.
- Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed.
- Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomes.

- Work schedule is determined by operational and programmatic needs and may vary.
- Regular use of standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, printers, copiers, and other office technology.
- Work is performed in a well-lit office environment as well as indoor and outdoor program settings, depending on program activities and weather conditions.
- Ability to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking throughout the workday.
- May require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and active supervision of participants.
- May require extended periods of sitting while working at a desk and using a computer.
- Travel to program sites and community locations may be required to support operational needs. Reimbursement for authorized travel is provided in accordance with organizational policies.
- Must maintain reliable transportation for required work-related travel.
- Ability to communicate effectively and exchange accurate information with participants, families, staff, community partners, and the public.
- Ability to observe and monitor participant activities, behaviors, and safety concerns at both close range and from a distance.
- Ability to remain stationary for portions of the workday and move throughout program facilities as necessary to supervise staff and participants.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining safety, professionalism, and program quality standards.
