Supervisor Job Title: Principal

The management services offered to our family of charter schools, allows us to collectively become a change agent and national leader in urban education as evidenced by student awareness of self, high academic achievement, positive school culture and community transformation wherever we serve.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and/or oversees mandated screenings and complete referrals and follow-up where applicable.
- Manage and control acute and chronic illnesses.
- Provide first aid for illness or injury to students and document nursing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Manage student files to ensure compliance of required health records.
- Establish health care plans for students with special health care needs and update them as needed.
- Review and monitor student immunization status.
- Makes appropriate referrals to up-date immunizations when indicated.
- Provide health teaching and counseling when applicable.
- Maintain comprehensive health records on each child and records of school nursing services.
- Assist in interpreting the health needs of individual children to parents and teachers and assists families in utilizing community resources for improving the health of their children.
- Administer medications and perform procedures according to physician orders and school’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure physician orders for individual student medications and/or treatments comply with requirements for administration.
- Inform teachers of health conditions of pupils which may affect behavior, appearance, or scholastic performance.
- Travel to Universal Schools to support with needs and Professional Development Training as needed.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Certified School Nurse or Licensed as RN or LPN.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
- CPR/AED certification.
- Background/experience preferred in pediatric nursing, community health nursing, critical care nursing, medical-surgical nursing and/or emergency room nursing.
- Knowledge of current Child Abuse Law.
- Required Act 48 continuing education coursework for Nursing license.
- Required State and Federal clearances.
- Principles and practices underlying professional nursing.
- Principles and practices underlying the special field of school health.
- Current trends in nursing and of literature in the fields of school health.
- Organization and administration of other cooperating agencies.
- State and local laws relating to health and social issues.
Ability to:
- Participate cooperatively in a program of school health nursing.
- Exercise professional judgment in making decisions.
- Communicate appropriately, collaboratively, and effectively with students, parents, administrators, other school personnel, health care providers, and community agencies.
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in the student population and its health needs.
- Organize a health office and manage time.
- Be a self-starter or self-motivated.
- Use a computer and various software applications.
