The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Neurology Chair Office, is seeking a Director-Clinical Research Administration. The position is tasked with direction, strategic planning, and oversight of all clinical research/sponsored activity in the Department of Neurology's 9 clinical divisions. Additionally, the position is responsible for leading and managing the Neurology Research Unit, which comprises the Department's central clinical research administration and financial management team.
General Responsibilities
To develop, implement and oversee the administrative, financial, legal and operational structure to support all clinical research activity within the assigned area.
To lead and support strategic planning for clinical research activities across the institution.
To work with leaders throughout UAB to facilitate a more integrated research enterprise.
To direct site operations, quality control procedures and process improvement activities to foster a customer-oriented organization, continuously analyzing staffing, financing, operations, policies, systems, and procedures to ensure an efficient and effective operation adaptable to internal and external change.
To serve as a subject matter expert (SME) to assigned research team/s for clinical research and administrative processes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Directs study operations. Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) to researchers for clinical research and administrative processes and exhibit sound problem solving skills. Maintains legal, financial, and personnel documentation of all transactions for projects. Maintains study’s compliance with institutional requirements.
Oversees the scientific concepts and design of research study activities. Assesses and determines solutions for operational shortcomings of protocols. Determines operational elements needed for conduct of clinical studies.
Oversees the financial management of all operations.
Manages site operations and process improvement to foster a customer-oriented organization continuously analyzing staffing, financing, operations, policies, systems, and procedures to ensure an efficient and effective operation adaptable to internal and external change.
Oversees all operations of clinical research facility to ensure that policies, regulations and procedures are being followed, objectives are being met and office is run efficiently and effectively across all teams.
Contributes to clinical research strategic planning across the institution. Serves as an advocate for the department/center. Advises the leadership team on administrative matters and acting on its behalf in the rendering of business decisions. Works with leaders throughout UAB in a spirit of open collaboration to facilitate a more integrated enterprise.
Manages specific functionality across teams represented in multiple clinical research projects from the planning to analysis phases. Assists colleagues in identifying efficiencies and improving process as needed.
Manages all components of Human Resources, ensuring adherence and compliance to University and School policies and procedures, supervising key staff, and leading in a manner that results in an engaged workforce. Trains staff as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Annual Salary Range: $99,090 - $161,025
Master's degree in a related field and ten (10) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) certification strongly preferred.
