The Assistant Director will also work in close partnership with campus stakeholders to implement the mission, vision, and goals of the Division of Student Life and University to create a welcoming and engaging environment for all students, as well as providing educational opportunities and resources to advance student learning and intercultural engagement. Reporting to the Director of SDI, the Assistant Director serves as an active member of the Student Diversity & Inclusion unit.
- Direct peer educator programs related to inclusivity, and intercultural learning and dialogue, including logistics, such as room reservations, marketing, scheduling and other core program functions.
- Oversee all aspects of inclusion and belonging workshops and trainings, including curriculum development, logistics, and assessment.
- Oversee signature educational programs, including first-year seminar education modules, online education and new student orientation initiatives.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate student organizations and councils regarding event planning, leadership development, and budget responsibilities.
- Support the management of the Center for Intercultural Engagement’s physical space.
- Support the education and development of student organizations (i.e., graduate, and undergraduate) housed in the Center for Intercultural Engagement, including dialogue training and intercultural competence development.
- Develop and facilitate undergraduate and graduate student intercultural related training and educational programs.
- Develop and provide support resources and student leader training for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Build and implement strategies for outreach, advocacy, and inclusion resources for student leaders to foster a sense of belonging, community, and build an inclusive campus culture.
- Develop, implement, and maintain assessment, communications, and advising strategies to effectively advocate and support all students.
- Advocate on behalf of students by building and maintaining direct connections and rapport with undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty to better the experiences related to inclusion on campus.
- Serve and participate on campus committees to share and embed inclusive student experiences.
- Directly supervise staff and student employees.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree with a minimum of four (4) years of higher education administration, administrative and leadership experience related to advancing belonging and inclusion initiatives in a complex organization.
- Ability to develop, implement and assess strategic initiatives that advance an affirming and inclusive culture.
- Exemplary facilitation and advising skills with students, faculty, and staff.
- Experienced in designing curriculum and plans for belonging and inclusion trainings and programs.
- A record of accomplishment as a student advocate and a champion for student success.
- Knowledge of belonging, and intercultural development theories, frameworks, and concepts; in addition to understanding the complexities within belonging, and inclusion content and process.
- Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills, and the ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and administration.
- Effective leadership, team building and collaboration skills.
- Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative and responsibility for projects and development of services.
- Skills in independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload with attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and rapidly changing technical environment.
