Job Summary/Basic Functions
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this leadership position oversees the administrative and business operations that support the University's technology organization. The Assistant Director provides strategic leadership for IT budgeting and financial administration, procurement, inventory and asset management, human resources coordination, facilities administration, and departmental business operations. The position also supervises the IT Business Office and serves as a key liaison with university administrative offices to ensure efficient, compliant, and customer-focused operations.
The successful candidate will possess strong organizational, financial, and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Experience in budgeting, procurement, contract administration, business process improvement, and personnel administration is highly desirable. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills are essential.
This position offers an opportunity to play a key leadership role in supporting the University's technology mission while helping advance strategic initiatives that improve operational effectiveness and service excellence across Information Technology.

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare executive reports, presentations, and correspondence.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
- Ability to establish productive working relationships with university leadership, faculty, staff, vendors, and external partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, customer service, and operational excellence.
- Demonstrated knowledge of business operations, organizational administration, and customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Required Experience:
- Significant progressively responsible experience supporting executive leadership and managing administrative or business operations in a complex organization.
- Experience managing budgets, procurement, contracts, financial reporting, and administrative operations.
- Experience supervising staff and coordinating multiple operational functions.
- Experience interpreting policies, procedures, and financial regulations.
Additional Considerations:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field.
- Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia administrative, purchasing, and financial practices.
- Experience working within higher education or public sector administration.
- Experience with enterprise financial systems, procurement systems, inventory management systems, and ERP platforms.
- Experience supporting executive leadership or cabinet-level administrators.
- Experience with project coordination, organizational planning, and process improvement initiatives.
Training, education, or professional certifications related to business administration, finance, public administration, project management, or organizational leadership.
