The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine – Department of Family and Community Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Health Careers Pathway Project Coordinator (Research Project Coordinator) to join their team.
The University of Maryland Department of Family and Community Medicine mission is to improve health through comprehensive family practice, education, and research, with a focus on treating the whole patient. They aim to train future family physicians, eliminate health disparities, and provide care to understand urban populations in Baltimore.

Primary Duties:
- Responsible for coordinating the daily operations of research studies in the department such as the development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of Maryland AHEC pathway projects and activities, working closely with the Associate Director and Center staff, local partners, students, and key stakeholders. The position coordinates data maintenance, grant expenditure adherence, project evaluation, meeting scheduling, and completing grant reports. Serves as a point of contact and provides technical assistance/support to AHEC regional staff including fostering strong relationships with AHECs to support their local implementation and ensure their progress in accordance with their subcontract and grant expectations.
- The Pathways Coordinator coordinates and ensures progress towards health careers pathway project plans and contributes to measurable team objectives. Conduct and support long-term follow-up data collection on project participants for project evaluation. Uses discretion to provide solutions to issues. Performs work that is varied and that does not follow prescribed procedures or processes and is responsible for effective operations and use of resources.
- Independently coordinates and communicates directly with the Associate Director, program participants, and center staff to manage the operation and evaluation activities of the research studies.
- Develops recruitment streams and advises center staff on best practices. Stays up to date with trends and best practices related to healthcare workforce development and pathways projects.
- Lead the collection and management of health careers pathways project study data by developing data collection instruments. Develop and implement new processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency of data collection and evaluation.
- Develop and produce reports of health careers pathway project study data for AHEC staff and stakeholders. Analyzes data and draws conclusions to make recommendations. Contributes meaningful information to enhance publications or grant applications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing, emergency services, chemistry, biology, public health, health planning, health administration, psychology, social work, or related discipline appropriate to position required.
Experience: Prior experience in research supporting workforce project planning, development and implementation preferred.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability and willingness to travel to AHEC regions in Maryland, with occasional overnight.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize research projects.
- Ability to communicate in an effective manner with Maryland AHEC program office and center staff, stakeholders, and participants.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, excellent written and communication skills.
- Proficient use of computers.
Hiring Range: $49,000 - $54,000, commensurate with education and experience.
