Description of Responsibilities and Duties
Manage an evolving portfolio of approximately 75-100 tiered parent and family member prospects and donors, refreshed each summer as new students are admitted. Manage prospect activity both locally in the Winston-Salem area, and in designated regions across the state and country in which UNCSA is focusing on developing donor/parent/alumni relations.
Work consistently and accurately with Raiser’s Edge database to ensure that contacts, solicitations, and other donor activities are entered in a timely manner, and donor records are accurate, updated, and refreshed as appropriate.
Engage prospects in all aspects of the gift cycle:
- Initiate contacts with prospects, and lapsed donors;
- Qualify prospects to assess interest;
- Cultivate and move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation;
- Make solicitations with appropriate leadership and/or volunteers on a case-by-case basis;
- Successfully close and secure gifts, including annual renewals and upgrades;
- Develop and maintain stewardship contacts with donors;
Assist with parent program activities, including:
- Communications and appeals
- First-year parent programming
- Qualification and solicitation
- Capstone giving
- Analysis of parent data
- Events
Assist in stewardship of parent relationships with annual giving circles:
- Parent Leadership Circle
- Dean’s Circles

Adhere to the highest ethical standards:
- Demonstrate empathetic disposition and perseverance, reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors;
- Enter contact reports in Raiser’s Edge promptly;
- Work collaboratively with advancement staff, faculty and leadership across campus, sharing prospect strategy with advancement staff;
- Focus on securing support for priorities outlined in UNCSA’s strategic plan, including academic and artistic programs, scholarships, unrestricted support, facilities and campus improvements, and other areas as directed.
- Stay current on best practices and trends in Parent and Family Giving.

The Office of Advancement works closely with the UNCSA Foundation, which provides oversight of philanthropic gifts to UNCSA, including gift processing and records management. Description of Work
The Assistant Director of Development, Parent & Family Giving (ADOD, P&FG) will support all aspects of Parent & Family Giving including:
- Parent & Family Giving Portfolio
- Maintain a portfolio of parent and family member gift prospects and actively work in all aspects of the gift cycle, including prospect qualification, cultivation, solicitation, renewals, upgrades, and stewardship.
- Build and advance strong relationships with prospective, current, and past parents and family members that result in philanthropic contributions.
- Work closely with members of the Annual Giving Team, LAG/Major/Principal Gift DODs, Planned Giving, Donor Relations, Special Events, and Prospect Development in strategizing, engagement, proposal development, gift solicitation, and stewardship of constituents.
- Assist in planning and execution of programming and special events on campus, regionally, and virtually for parents and family members. Collaborate with campus partners who impact parent constituents to achieve stronger parent communications and increased parent engagement.
- Assist in analysis of parent data to measure and track growth of program development.
- Giving Circles – The ADOD, P&FG will work collaboratively with the SDOD, Annual & Family Giving, ADOD, LAG and Special Events in the cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and events/activities associated with the Parent Leadership Circle, Deans Circles, and Giannini Society.
- Annual Giving – The ADOD,P&FG will work with the Annual Giving Program Manager to coordinate, leverage, and segment annual giving activities directed to parents and family members such as Days of Giving and Brick Program.
The Assistant Director of Development, Parent & Family Giving reports to the Senior Director of Development, Annual & Family Giving and is an integral member of the Advancement team, which includes major gifts, planned giving, parent & family giving, annual giving, grants, alumni relations, special events, and donor relations. This is a part-time temporary contract position.
Work Schedule and Hours
The position requires 25 hours per week during the standard work hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday. Occasional nights and weekends are required in conjunction with special events and/or performances, and standard weekly schedule may be adjusted to accommodate additional hours.
Required Qualifications
A minimum of two years effective experience in a non-profit development organization within the individual giving or annual fund arena, and experience with events management; excellent communication skills; experience or familiarity with the “moves management” concept of individual fundraising; proven record of success in working with voluntary leaders; skilled in fundraising and office related technologies, including database management (Excel, Access), familiarity and/or training in Raiser’s Edge, ability to generate Raiser’s Edge reports as needed, word-processing (Microsoft Word), web-based fundraising communication and strategies (on-line giving program experience), strong organizational skills and practices, willingness to work on projects from conception to completion, and enjoys the performing and fine arts academic environment. Bachelor’s degree is required.
