Job Description:
The Area Freight Operations Manager I is responsible for Freight Forwarding facility operations. He/She manages the processing of inbound and outbound domestic and international freight shipments and ensures governmental regulations and compliance requirements are met.
This position manages the facility profit and loss (P&L) process, ensures proper staffing and expense controls, and supports revenue generation and business development activities. He/She monitors and ensures safety compliance and conducts facility and equipment safety and safety compliance training. This position oversees facility environmental management and ensures dangerous goods and hazardous materials shipments are properly handled. This position manages supervisors, specialists, and hourly employees within the department.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in the brokerage industry, with proven experience leading and managing teams for more than 5 years. Demonstrated leadership skills, the ability to drive performance, and experience working in fast-paced, client-focused environments are essential for success in this role.
As a Freight Forwarding Operations Manager, your responsibilities also include:
Project Planning and Execution: You will be in charge of planning, scheduling, and overseeing the execution of freight forwarding projects to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Addressing logistical challenges, resolving shipment issues, and making critical decisions to optimize routes and transportation modes for efficient operations.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Working closely with teams across procurement, customs compliance, and transportation to coordinate seamless operations and achieve business objectives.
Leadership and Mentorship: Providing guidance to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and driving operational excellence through effective leadership.
Process Improvement and Innovation: Identifying opportunities for process enhancements, implementing innovative solutions, and staying abreast of industry trends to drive operational efficiency.
Technical or Customer-Facing Responsibilities: Handling customer queries, managing vendor relationships, and leveraging technology tools for effective shipment tracking and reporting.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:
Technical Skills: Proficiency in logistics software, supply chain management systems, data analytics tools, knowledge of international shipping regulations, and familiarity with E2K and LOCUS systems.
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience Level: Minimum of 5 years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics operations, or supply chain management roles, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, adaptability to changing environments, leadership qualities, and a customer-centric approach.
Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of customs regulations, international trade compliance, Incoterms, and best practices in freight forwarding operations.

Pay Range:
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,900.00/year to $133,140.00/year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to, market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and education/training and a candidate’s work experience. Hired applicants are offered annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs, subject to applicable eligibility requirements. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
