The Urban Land Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and education organization supported by its members. Founded in 1936, the Institute has more than 48,000 members worldwide representing the full spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines across private enterprise and public service. ULI’s mission is to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide.
ABOUT ULI UTAH
ULI Utah delivers the Institute’s mission at the local level, providing members with education, networking, and opportunities to give back to their communities. The district council serves approximately 450 members and puts on about 30 programs a year, including three signature events: our largest, drawing 500+ attendees, the Housing Summit, drawing 300+, and a resort/mountain-town-focused event drawing about 200. Our calendar also includes a Technical Assistance Panel (TAP), an engaged Leaders group with a robust mentorship program and an annual retreat, an active Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) with a quarterly breakfast series and 4-6 programs a year, and UrbanPlan delivered in local high schools and with area municipalities.
THE ROLE
We are looking for an Associate to provide marketing, events, and operational support to the Executive Director of ULI Utah. This is a hands-on, generalist role at the center of a small, fully remote team: you will help run our marketing and communications, coordinate event logistics, and support the volunteer committees that power our programming. Core skills include marketing and social media execution, event planning, organization, and clear written and verbal communication.
The Associate will be a primary point of contact for ULI members, real estate and land use leaders, and partners, so it is important that this person is friendly, professional, and well-informed. Significant training is provided; this can be a strong first full-time role for the right candidate, provided they bring genuine initiative and a willingness to learn quickly.
The role requires attendance at committee meetings, events, and programs throughout the Salt Lake City region, some of which take place in the evenings or on weekends, along with occasional regional travel (for example, the Leaders group’s annual retreat).
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Marketing and Communications
Create and manage marketing content and graphics in Canva, and coordinate e-blast communications to members and prospects.
Manage social media accounts, keeping content current and on-brand across relevant platforms.
Update the district council’s website with photos and information about upcoming events and programs.
Help prepare event collateral and presentation materials, including agendas, speaker bios, and slide decks.
Event and Program Support
Coordinate event logistics, including catering, room setup, meeting materials, attendee registration, and event-specific invoicing.
Accurately enter data into ULI’s CRM/AMS platform to prepare events and programs for registration.
Support delivery of signature events, the TAP, Leaders programming, WLI events, and UrbanPlan sessions.
Committee Support
Support member-led committees by sending meeting notices, tracking RSVPs, maintaining committee lists, and helping recruit and retain volunteers.
Attend committee meetings, take notes, and distribute them to committee members and ULI staff.
Work directly with committee chairs and members to keep their events and initiatives on track.
Operational Support
Support the Executive Director with scheduling, note-taking, attendance tracking, and other duties as assigned.
Field and respond to phone and email inquiries from members and prospects.
Manage records in the CRM/AMS to generate reports, attendee lists, and invoices.
Support financial tasks such as creating and sending invoices and processing payments.
Maintain online file systems and order supplies or technology for the district council as needed.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required
Some experience with marketing and/or social media; this is the area of strongest need for the team.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail; able to independently manage files, notes, and follow-up reminders.
Confident, professional communicator who can engage comfortably with senior industry leaders and members, and can give clear direction to volunteers.
Self-starter who can work independently and stay accountable in a fully remote, unmonitored environment.
Strong customer service orientation and professional oral and written communication.
Ability to attend early-morning and evening events and meetings, and to travel locally throughout the Salt Lake City region.
Preferred
Event planning or coordination experience (this can be learned on the job for a candidate with strong marketing skills).
Graphic design experience, particularly Canva; familiarity with Photoshop is a plus.
Internship or early-career experience in marketing, communications, events, or customer service.
Familiarity with CRM/AMS or email marketing platforms.
Knowledge of or interest in the Utah real estate market.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
In the first several months, success means learning the role well enough to handle day-to-day responsibilities without heavy oversight. Beyond that, it means being proactive: identifying what needs to be done, taking initiative rather than waiting to be directed, and bringing ideas and questions forward. Over time, success includes finding ways to improve ULI Utah’s processes and growing into greater ownership of the district council’s marketing and events function.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range for this position is $42,545 to $54,596. Actual compensation will be based on experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors.
ULI offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and life insurance; generous vacation leave; and a retirement plan with employer match.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is fully remote, based in the Salt Lake City area, as ULI Utah does not maintain a physical office. Regular local travel throughout the district council’s service area is required for events, programs, and committee meetings, including some early mornings, evenings, and weekends, along with occasional regional travel for larger initiatives.
ULI is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion/creed, sex, national origin, disability, genetic information, pregnancy, veteran or active military status, non-citizenship or citizenship status, arrest or conviction record, credit history, caregiver status, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital or partnership status, familial status, unemployment status, or any other status protected by applicable law.
