- OSHA Outreach Instruction: Serve as the primary instructor for OSHA 10-Hour Maritime (General Industry or Shipyard Employment) courses, ensuring all qualified deck and shop personnel receive appropriate safety credentials.
- Corrosion Control Curriculum: Develop and facilitate training modules focused on marine corrosion prevention, blasting/painting techniques, non-destructive testing (NDT) basics, and coating inspection standards (e.g., AMPP/NACE/SSPC).
- Safety Compliance Training: Conduct regular training sessions on critical maritime safety topics, including Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Hazardous Material Handling (HAZCOM).
- Regulatory Alignment: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA (29 CFR 1915 - Shipyard Employment), EPA, and Coast Guard regulations to ensure all training content remains compliant.
- Training Records Management: Track, document, and manage employee training matrices, certifications, and renewals using the company’s Learning Management System (LMS).
- Audit Readiness: Ensure all training documentation is audit-ready for internal safety reviews and external regulatory inspections.
- Competency Evaluations: Conduct hands-on evaluations of painters and technicians at the shop or aboard vessels to verify skills and safe practices.
- Needs Analysis: Partner with Production Supervisors and Safety Managers to identify skill gaps and develop targeted remedial training programs.
- Safety Incident Monitoring: Review near-miss and incident reports related to blasting and coating operations to adjust training curriculums and prevent future occurrences.
- Must have a minimum of 6-8 years of experience in a shipyard, maritime, or heavy industrial environment, with a strong focus on corrosion control, industrial coatings, or safety management.
- Must have a proven track record of delivering technical training or safety instruction to adult learners in a construction or industrial setting.
- Must be an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer eligible to teach the OSHA 10-Hour Maritime course.
- Must have AMPP (formerly NACE/SSPC) certifications (e.g., Coating Inspector Program, Protective Coating Specialist).
- Must have a deep understanding of OSHA 29 CFR 1915 standards and maritime industrial hazards.
- Must have familiarity with modern surface preparation methods (hydro-blasting, abrasive blasting) and marine coating systems.
- Must have working knowledge of NAVSEA instructions, shipyard operations, WAF/Tag-out protocols, and general AIT contractor regulations.
- Must have an advanced proficiency in financial reporting, project forecasting, risk management, and integrated master scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project).
- Must have a background in ship repair mechanics, including QA workbook construction, surface preparation, and corrosion control methodologies.
- Must have exceptional ability to detect, mitigate, and resolve high-stakes technical, financial, or personnel conflicts across various project sites.
- Must have verbal and written communication skills suitable for brief-outs with high-ranking military officials, shipyard executives, and deck-plate personnel.
- Must have superior organizational skills with the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure industrial environment.
- Prior Navy E-7 to E-9 or O-4 to O5 preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation preferred.
- Prefer experience using Microsoft Project to write proposals
- Previous experience in reading/developing drawings for the navy and MSC ships.
- Passport holder preferred.
- Knowledge within corrosion control, paintings and top coating.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Must have the ability to gain access to private and public shipyards and Naval installations.
- Up to 50% travel nationwide to include international travel as needed.
