Position Summary
Quality Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer hybrid that supports the manufacture of complex machined structural parts for the Commercial and Defense Aerospace Industry. Duties include new part development, process improvement, Production troubleshooting, and customer liaison for quality issues and configuration change. You will be working cross functionally with Programmers, Production, and Contract Program Managers to ensure smooth resolution of discrepancies, conduct internal audits and drive cause and corrective action activities. Ensures processes and procedures are following regulations. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements. May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Know and follow general company and corporate policies and procedures.
- Know, understand, and follow department policies and procedures.
- Meet personal goals and workplace expectations.
- Lead cause and corrective action activities, follow-up on commitments and document results.
- Lead or participate in Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) Events
- Standardize and optimize inspection plans.
- Establish in-process inspection and operator certification program.
- Track key quality data, including: MRB, Rejection Causes, Process
- Discrepancies, Escapes, Rework.
- Manage customer tags including communication with customer technical representatives to resolve discrepancies.
- Review and approve AS 9102 First Article Inspection Reports.
- Review manufacturing planning for compliance to customer / internal quality requirements.
- Writes a step by step machining process (planning/routing) based on engineering data, the bid, and the customer’s purchase order and requirements.
- Analyzes all available inputs from multiple sources.
- Assures properly approved data is entered into the ERP system.
- Maintains an overview of new and established jobs for possible improvements.
- Help train new manufacturing employees as needed.
- Be the technical contact for the customer products you are assigned to.
- Perform dispositions on internally generated non-conformance reports.
- Confers with management, production and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
- Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Confers with planning staff concerning product tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials or parts and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
- Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
- Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
- Consults customer specification documents to develop operations routing for all manufactured products.
- Report to work on time, follow instructions from supervisor or management, interact well co-workers, understand and follow work rules and procedures.
- Other various duties as needed or as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Requires Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent, combination of education and experience will be considered.
- At least 5 years manufacturing quality engineering experience in the aerospace industry, combination of education/experience will be considered

- To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess basic computer proficiency and functional knowledge with applications and activities including (but not limited to):
- Working knowledge of Machining practices/procedures and supporting processes.
- Ability to analyze and develop policies/procedures, to perform sound root cause analysis (including pareto, fishbone, 5Y) and to perform process mapping.
- Proficient in technical interpretation of engineering documents, drawings, blueprints, models.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize own work.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to a team effort.
- Strong interpersonal and customer-oriented skills. Proficient in use of computer applications including MS Office Suite, MS Project, Visio.
