The Behavioral Health Clinician – (Assessment) is a key member of the multidisciplinary team responsible for completing high-quality, timely, and clinically sound biopsychosocial assessments for individuals seeking admission to residential substance use disorder services. This position supports both PACE Detox (ASAM 3.7) and GRAN Recovery Center (ASAM 3.5) and plays a critical role in determining appropriate level of care, facilitating timely admissions, and ensuring a smooth transition into treatment services. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, excellent engagement skills, and the ability to produce clear, concise, and defensible documentation in a fast-paced environment.
PACE Detox Center is a 24/7 residential withdrawal management program providing medical monitoring and stabilization for individuals experiencing substance withdrawal. GRAN Recovery Center is a 28-day intensive residential treatment program focused on early recovery, skill-building, and transition planning.
The Behavioral Health Clinician – (Assessment) supports access to care, screening, intake, and assessment processes across both programs, ensuring individuals are placed at the appropriate level of care and engaged effectively at the point of entry. This role requires the ability to quickly establish rapport, gather clinically relevant information, and synthesize findings into a well-structured assessment that supports admission decisions and treatment planning.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assessment & Clinical Evaluation
- Conducts comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments for individuals seeking admission to Detox and Residential SUD services.
- Establishes DSM-5 diagnoses and determines appropriate ASAM level of care.
- Synthesizes clinical information into clear, concise, and defensible documentation to support admission and treatment decisions.
- Demonstrates strong critical thinking in assessing co-occurring mental health, medical, and substance use conditions.
Access to Care & Admissions Support
- Supports screening and intake processes to ensure timely access to care for individuals seeking services.
- Collaborates with Clinical Team Lead, Charge RN, medical providers, and Access staff to facilitate admission decisions.
- Assists with coordination of admissions, including gathering required documentation and communicating with referral sources.
- Identifies and addresses barriers to admission and works proactively to resolve them.
Crisis Intervention & Risk Assessment
- Provides crisis intervention services, including suicide risk assessments and safety planning.
- Assesses level of risk and determines need for higher levels of care, including facilitation of 1013 processes when appropriate.
- Supports safe transitions to Emergency Receiving Facilities or inpatient settings when clinically indicated.
Documentation & Compliance
- Completes all clinical documentation (assessments, notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries) accurately and within required timeframes (typically within 24 hours).
- Ensures documentation meets agency, payer, and regulatory standards.
- Completes authorization requests and reauthorizations within required timelines.
- Tracks and resolves documentation issues that may impact billing and reimbursement.
Treatment Planning & Clinical Support
- Develops initial treatment plans based on assessment findings, including strengths, needs, and recovery goals.
- Updates treatment plans as clinically indicated.
- Provides occasional group facilitation focused on early recovery skills, psychoeducation, and engagement.
- Supports discharge planning and transition of care processes.
Care Coordination & Collaboration
- Serves as a liaison between clients, providers, internal teams, and external referral sources to ensure continuity of care.
- Develops and maintains relationships with community providers and referral partners.
- Communicates effectively with multidisciplinary team members to support clinical decision-making and program flow.
- Participates in treatment team meetings and staffing discussions.
Operational Coverage & On-Call Responsibilities
- Participates in administrative on-call rotation to provide leadership support for urgent program issues.
- Serves as a resource to staff regarding clinical, operational, or safety concerns.
- Responds to critical incidents and ensures appropriate follow-up and documentation.
- In rare circumstances, when staffing shortages occur and after all PRN staff have been contacted and the Charge RN is unable to provide coverage, the Unit Director may be required to provide temporary clinical or nursing coverage to ensure safe unit operations and continuity of care.

Crisis Intervention
- Experience with suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and emergency interventions.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Licensure in the State of Georgia (LCSW, LPC, LMSW, or LAPC).
- Experience working with individuals with Substance Use Disorders and/or co-occurring disorders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fully licensed clinician (LCSW, LPC, or LMFT).
- Experience conducting biopsychosocial assessments in a high-volume setting.
- Experience working in detoxification or residential SUD programs.
- Experience with crisis intervention and 1013 processes.
- Experience with CareLogic or other EHR systems.
- Experience in Community Service Board or public behavioral health setting.
Requirements/Competencies:
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
- Requires long periods of sitting/standing.
- Must have valid Georgia driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record in accordance with company policy.
- Candidates for selection must pass a criminal background check (including fingerprinting).
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and subject to random drug screens.
- Any combination of training and experience will enable the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
