Childcare Center Director
Little Greene School House
Position Summary
The Director is responsible for the overall daily operation of Little Greene School House. This position provides leadership to staff, ensures compliance with all Illinois DCFS Licensing Standards (Rule 407), maintains a safe and nurturing environment for children, supports families, and works closely with the Owner to achieve the center's mission and goals.
The Director leads by example, remains actively involved in the classrooms as needed, promotes a positive workplace culture, and ensures high-quality care and education for every child.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Staff Management
- Supervise, coach, and support all teaching and support staff.
- Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
- Conduct employee observations, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and training new employees.
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, and performance.
- Promote accountability while recognizing and encouraging employee growth.
- Assist staff in meeting required DCFS training and professional development requirements.
Daily Operations
- Oversee the daily operation of the center to ensure classrooms are appropriately staffed and functioning efficiently.
- Adjust staffing to maintain required teacher-to-child ratios.
- Assist in classrooms when needed to support staff and maintain quality care.
- Coordinate classroom transitions and enrollment needs.
- Ensure the facility remains clean, organized, safe, and welcoming.
Licensing & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all Illinois DCFS Rule 407 licensing standards.
- Ensure all children's files and employee records remain complete and current.
- Monitor required certifications including CPR, First Aid, Mandated Reporter, SIDS, and other required trainings.
- Prepare for licensing visits, inspections, and audits.
- Ensure health, safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures are consistently followed.
Family Relations
- Build positive relationships with families through open, respectful communication.
- Address parent concerns professionally and promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
- Represent Little Greene School House with professionalism at all times.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist with enrollment, tours, and family orientation.
- Monitor attendance and classroom rosters.
- Review documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Support payroll and scheduling processes.
- Assist the Owner with reports, licensing documentation, and administrative projects.
- Maintain organized records and documentation.
Curriculum & Program Quality
- Support teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Encourage engaging classroom environments and positive teacher-child interactions.
- Monitor classroom quality and provide coaching for continuous improvement.
- Ensure classrooms maintain required materials and supplies.
Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure all safety policies and emergency procedures are followed.
- Investigate and document accidents and incidents.
- Report concerns immediately to the Owner.
- Maintain a culture where children's health and safety are always the highest priority.
Qualifications Required
- Meet Illinois DCFS Director Qualifications under Rule 407.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced childcare environment.
- Working knowledge of childcare licensing regulations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency with computer systems, email, and childcare management software.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively participate in classroom activities.
Preferred
- Previous childcare management or leadership experience.
- Experience with Brightwheel or similar childcare software.
- Experience with staff coaching and professional development.
