Job Description
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. *Implement services for students with disabilities commensurate with policies and procedures.
2. *Assist other paraprofessionals in implementation of all performance responsibilities.
3. *When necessary to accommodate students with disabilities, the position category may require you to:
a) *Provide general medication administration only after attending the required generalized training as assigned,
b) *Provide assistance to students in activities of daily living, self-care, self-management, and ensure physical safety during regular intervals as directed by the teacher,
c) *Assist teacher in implementation of behavioral and/or physical care plans,
d) *Assist in the provision of grooming, toileting, and hygiene activities and/or instructions to students as assigned,
e) *Assist in eating and feeding activities, as assigned,
f) *Provide one-on-one tutoring for eligible students,
g) *Assist with self-care tasks,
h) *Act as a translator, when necessary.
4. *Work with students in small group settings relative to classroom assignments or activities in a professional manner as directed by the teacher.
5. *Assist with monitoring routines regarding attendance and all required documentation.
6. *Only after successful completion of the substitute teacher training course (STAR) and under the direction and planning of the teacher, provide supervision of students in various settings to include community-based instruction.
7. *Assist the teacher in the delivery of instructions as requested.
8. *Perform preventive case management as necessary.
9. *Effectively utilize computer software (e.g. e-mail and word processing) and educational programs as required to document and report on the program.
10. *Accurately assess student performance requiring objective evaluation as assigned.
11. *Keep in confidence personally identifiable information obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
12. *Assist in the management of appropriate student behavior to maintain an environment conducive to learning, including crisis intervention as needed.
13. *Assist in the physical management and positioning of students, as directed by the teacher or other related professional(s).
14. *Abide by all procedures and policies of the school board, state rules and laws, and other governing laws and rules.
15. *Provide outstanding customer service by:
a) Accompany students to and from campus areas outside the classroom as required, such as to the area where medical needs are performed and when assigned; accompany the teacher and students on approved field trips; accompany students as required to courses in other locations on campus; accompany students to the cafeteria for breakfast and/or lunch participation; accompany students in community settings; and escort transported students to and from the classroom upon arrival and dismissal-when employee’s scheduled work hours allow,
b) Assisting in the monitoring of students during recesses or special activities,
c) Using positive interpersonal communication skills and nurturing encouragement to students,
d) *Assisting in the displaying of students’ work or accomplishments,
e) *Assisting in the organization, distribution, reproduction, and management of instructional and/or assessment materials,
f) *Assisting in distributing to and collecting information from parents about the school, as directed,
g) *Conduct parental involvement activities as assigned,
h) *Assisting with library or media center activities,
i) *Updating charts associated with the classroom operation.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned by the School Principal/Administrator or Program Specialist.

Required Qualifications/Certifications
- For All Paraprofessional IV:
- Holds a High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent and one of the following:
- Holds an Associate’s (or higher) degree; or
- Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 hours); or
- Received a passing grade on the Para Pro Assessment
- Successful completion of the VCS’ substitute teacher training course (STAR) within one (1) year of the date of hire
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Knowledge and ability to understand child development concepts
- Ability to treat students and parents/ families with respect
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students and student records as stated in the Family Right to Privacy Act (FRPA)
- Ability to project a positive image regarding the program, the students enrolled in the program and the school
- Ability to follow directions and assist in meeting the needs of the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student
- Ability to work productively and enthusiastically with children, teachers and parents
- Ability to assist with instructional tasks and activities that are developed by the teacher
- Technical skills to assist in classroom instruction preferred
- Ability to understand the unique challenges of children and families in need
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and publications
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Ability to accurately assess objective evaluations for teacher review and recording
- Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with school staff, professional staff, school community, outside agencies and families
- Effective customer relations skills
- Ability to accomplish tasks with a minimum of supervision
- Ability to supervise students when accompanying them to various assigned areas (only with proof of required training)
