The Reentry Case Manager plays a key role in supporting successful community reintegration for individuals returning to Chatham, Johnston, Lee, Orange, and Wake Counties from federal correctional facilities . Serving as the primary point of contact for participants, this position ensures the comprehensive delivery of case management services for the Capital Area Workforce Development region under the NC PROWD initiative.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct individualized assessments and determine program eligibility.
Complete participant intakes and develop tailored service plans.
Coordinate supportive services—including basic needs assistance, transportation, employment support, and housing resources—to help participants overcome barriers to reentry.
Collaborate closely with community organizations, workforce partners, and federal correctional facilities to maintain a consistent and streamlined referral and continuity‑of‑care process.
Maintain accurate case notes, documentation, and performance data in compliance with program and grant requirements.
Advocate for participants to secure needed services and support.
Work within a multi‑disciplinary team to support decision‑making, troubleshoot barriers, and implement service strategies.
Assist clients with navigating complex systems, resources, and community supports.
Please Note **This position is grant‑funded through October 2028**. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of future grant funding. If grant funding ends, the position will be discontinued.
About Our Team
Capital Area Workforce Development is a public-private partnership that focuses on economic development by ensuring the local workforce has the skills, training, and education to meet the needs of local employers. The board oversees workforce solutions in Chatham, Johnston, Lee, Orange, and Wake counties designed to serve businesses and individuals of all ages. We believe in economic development through workforce excellence. The award winning CAWD Reentry Team provides support services and employment assistance to help prepare men and women returning from incarceration for successful employment and self-sufficiency. CAWD is the local provider for the federal Partnerships for Reentry Opportunities in Workforce Development (PROWD) grant initiative. Through this initiative, CAWD will provide case management, job training, employment assistance, and supportive services for individuals being released from the Butner Federal Prison. The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Associate's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or related field
Three years of job-related experience
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Three years experience providing effective intervention strategies and case management within reentry or the judicial system.
One year experience working in reentry services.
Proficient bilingual English/Spanish communicator.

Competence in deescalating high‑intensity situations and managing conflict effectively.

Proficiency in applying core case management functions, including assessment, planning, service implementation, follow‑up, documentation, and monitoring.
Strength in building and sustaining relationships with clients and service providers through active listening and responsive engagement.
Exceptional organizational skills with a focus on efficient time management.
Capacity to handle diverse responsibilities accurately, thoroughly, and within required timeframes.
Competence in using office equipment and technology—including software systems such as Microsoft Office and electronic document management tools—to meet business needs.
