This position is responsible for the management and control of all transit-related materials, inventories, and warehouse operations, including vehicle repair parts, lubricants, facility maintenance materials, bus stop and passenger shelter components, signage, amenities, and other operational supplies. The position provides technical assistance and leadership to assigned materials management personnel and coordinates inventory planning, procurement support, forecasting, warehousing, and distribution activities. Responsibilities include maintaining inventory levels necessary to support fleet maintenance, facility maintenance, transit stop infrastructure, and operational continuity; developing standard parts kits; forecasting material requirements; assisting in the development of procurement contracts; ensuring compliance with federal requirements, local policies, and industry standards; and maintaining effective inventory control systems.
Job Functions:
- Manage inventories supporting fleet maintenance operations, facilities maintenance, transit centers, bus stops, passenger shelters, signage, benches, waste receptacles, lighting systems, and other transit infrastructure assets.
- Directly supervises assigned personnel, including responsibility for assigning work, evaluating performance, coaching employees, recommending hiring, discipline, promotion, and termination decisions.
- Coordinate procurement, storage, distribution, and replenishment of facility maintenance parts and materials including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building maintenance, grounds maintenance, and safety-related supplies.
- Maintain inventory records and stock levels for bus stop and passenger shelter replacement components including panels, glazing, roofing materials, benches, lighting components, signage, hardware, and related infrastructure materials.
- Develop and maintain inventory forecasting models for fleet, facility, and passenger amenity assets.
- Coordinate with Facilities, Engineering, Capital Programs, Bus Stop Infrastructure, and Maintenance personnel to identify material requirements and establish inventory stocking levels.
- Establish inventory control procedures for non-vehicle assets, consumables, maintenance supplies, and infrastructure replacement components.
- Monitor inventory turnover, stock obsolescence, warranty recovery opportunities, and lifecycle replacement requirements.
- Support emergency response and service restoration efforts by ensuring availability of critical materials and replacement components.
- Develop specifications and support procurement activities for fleet parts, facility maintenance materials, transit stop infrastructure components, and operational supplies.
- Maintain accountability for inventory valuation, asset tracking, warehouse security, and audit compliance for all materials managed by the department.
- Coordinate the work of and provide technical assistance to parts clerks maintaining parts inventories and receiving and issuing parts and supplies.
- Analyzing purchasing records to allow for most economical (best value) purchasing methods.
- Incorporate premade parts kits into current inventory levels.
- Verifying vendor compliance with parts purchased.
- Development of Parts Bid specifications.
- Creates annual Parts Department goals and budget, in alignment with the organization’s financial and operational objectives.
- Respond to questions and provide advice on equipment components, parts, and inventory requirements; oversee inventory maintenance operations.
- Keep current with the latest service bulletins, advisories and policies on inventory and processes.
- Provide feedback to staff on employee and teamwork performance as well as any behavioral and attendance issues.
- Provide feedback to staff on safety concerns, process control and situations which affect productivity and workflow.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of facility maintenance systems and associated repair materials, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, grounds, and building systems.
- Knowledge of passenger shelter, transit stop, signage, accessibility, and public infrastructure components and replacement requirements.
- Knowledge of warehouse management, inventory forecasting, materials planning, and asset lifecycle management principles.
- Knowledge of FTA-funded asset management practices and inventory accountability requirements.
- Knowledge of procurement practices related to transit infrastructure, facilities maintenance, and public-sector inventory management.
- Knowledge of workload planning and scheduling.
- Knowledge of applicable service standards, operating policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Knowledge of parts room operations and inventories that support a large fleet of automotive and Heavy-duty Buses as well as large-scale transit repair facilities.
- Knowledge of the parts that comprise gasoline and diesel-powered engines as well as drive trains, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, suspension and related system, Including Hybrid and Battery propulsion systems.
- Knowledge of inventory control and warehousing methods and practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of parts catalogs and technical specifications for automotive, coach and heavy-duty bus as well as building maintenance parts and supplies.

- Computer skills required to enter and extract information from vehicle maintenance systems and related software applications. Experience with Crystal reports is a plus.

Minimum Requirements:
Years of Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in materials management, inventory control, warehouse operations, procurement, or related field
- At least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity within a transit, fleet maintenance, heavy equipment, or similar operational environment.
Education:
- Any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
- Educational Requirement; Associate degree preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Possess a valid Driver’s License
- Willingness and availability to work different shifts on weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Physical Demands:
- Sitting, standing, lifting, reaching, squatting, twisting, bending, walking, talking, writing, repetitive motion, carrying, grasping, holding, clarity of vision, speaking, listening.
- While at the Nashville MTA operating facilities, incumbent should observe all policies, procedures, safety precautions, and regulations using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ability to bend, stoop, walk, kneel, stretch, and lift up to 55 lbs. Climbing stairs and ladders.
Work Environment:
- Working in various weather conditions such as rain, cold climate, etc.
- Position works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, and temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals.
