POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for swimmers on water polo team. This job requires a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of water polo in order to teach to local youth. Skills include teaching the appropriate techniques for treading water as well as passing and shooting the ball and most of all teamwork. Coaches will teach the fundamentals of offensive and defensive play while maintaining a safe, controlled and fun environment. All through implementation and instruction that follow our core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Coaches and instructs swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared practices and workouts accordingly.
Teaches skills that include appropriate techniques for treading water as well as passing and shooting the ball and most of all, teamwork. In addition, will teach the fundamentals of offensive and defensive play while maintaining a safe, controlled and fun environment.
Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
Active support of our DEIB statement and putting into practice our commitment to equity, diversity, belonging and inclusion. Continue to think about strategies to support diversity goals of the organization.
Conveys information on the water polo team, aquatics programs and schedules.
Attends practices and games as required.
Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, water polo agenda/reports, etc.).
Reliable and enthusiastic
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
Organizes and puts away needed water polo team equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum age of 18.
Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
Committing to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization. Learning about our initiatives and the continuous work and being able to vocalize with members if needed.
USA Water Polo Certification.
Knowledge of the water polo rules and regulations.
Knowledgeable in competition management.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Physical Demands:
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique.
Ability to lift equipment.
