The Weston Public Schools (WPS) is seeking to hire qualified School Bus Drivers to safely transport students to and from their homes, athletic events, and field trips. We are looking for a diverse pool of applicants who are inspired by our mission to educate, equip, and inspire all students to achieve their full potential and enrich their community.
Compensation & Benefits Highlights- $35.37 per hour (same hourly rate for extra trips)
- Guaranteed minimum of 26 hours per week
- Eligible for overtime pay at the rate of one and one-half times the hourly rate for working over eight hours in one day, 40 hours in one week, weekends, and holidays

The Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 2,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) - a voluntary school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 160 students (K-12).
Key Responsibilities- Exercise great care at all times in the transportation of school children; take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, employees, equipment and property
- Report all observed student injuries, accidents, illnesses and discipline problems on the bus to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as reasonably possible and shall be guided by the Transportation Coordinator or Building Administrators advice and direction. Subject to the policies of the system and particular school
- Observe established and accepted work practices and procedures in accordance with student transportation policy, school policy, and supplemental administrative directives
- Attend in-service and required training to improve skills, attitudes, and knowledge of bus driving and student control to maintain appropriate driving license
- Comply with all motor vehicle laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and regulations established by the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV), Department of Public Utilities, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the School Committee, and other local authorities
- Report accidents to police, await police at scene of accident
- Wear seat belt while driving
- Observe the no idling policy
- Do not use cell phones when school bus is in motion
- Instruct students who ride buses in rider safety annually, and practices emergency exit drills
- Operate school bus at a safe speed at all times, not to exceed the posted speed limit
- Operate warning lights for a distance of not less than 100 feet before bus stops, and for a distance of at least 200 feet before reaching bus stops
- Operate school bus warning devices while stopped to warn approaching traffic to stop and allow students to cross road safely
- Require students who must cross the road to walk to a point 10 feet or more in front of bus, stop before reaching a position in line with the left side of bus, and await signal from bus driver to start across the road
- Stop school bus at railway grade crossings, open entrance door to bus and drivers window and determine when it is safe for vehicle to cross railroad tracks
- Make stops in the right hand lane when loading or discharging students on streets and stop only at designated points, where the bus can be clearly seen for a safe distance from all directions
- Operate school bus in accordance with route schedule and designated stops
- Keep copy of route schedule in bus, including bus starts in morning, time it leaves each point at which students are taken on, time of arrival at school, bus odometer reading at beginning of day and at end of the day, and bus counts
- Transport only students assigned to particular route (MS/HS students often get on different buses), unless otherwise authorized by the building administrators with consent of parents/guardians students
- Perform daily pre-trip safety inspection of vehicle, and reports damage and/or malfunction immediately
- Perform daily post-trip safety inspection of the entire interior and exterior or the bus;
- Clean interior of vehicle regularly including windows, windshield and rear window, and warning and signal lights
- Require students to keep the bus clean
- Daily report on number of students and miles traveled to Transportation Coordinator
- Perform other duties and responsibilities, as directed by the Transportation Coordinator
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Massachusetts Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A or B, with passenger endorsement
- Posses S and P endorsements and Massachusetts school bus certificate
- Effective communication (written and verbal)
