Job Summary
Provides direct clinical care under the operational supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse or other licensed clinician. Gives injections, takes vital signs, and completes documentation of activities in the medical chart. Provides general assistance throughout the patient visit and during any applicable procedures. Assists with training new staff. Assists with assigning coverage for call outs.

- Demonstrates organizational skills necessary to multi-task, meet deadlines and reprioritize as needed.

Primary Essential Duties:
- Monitors WWC vaccine program including maintaining adequate storage, appropriate utilization, and perpetual inventory by ordering from pharmacies, the Department of Health, commercial vendors, and other sources as needed. Notify manager when order has been placed. Completes vaccine inventory monthly.
- Enters vaccine information, including but not limited to all codes and lot numbers, into electronic medical record for use by other medical staff.
- Monitors and records daily vaccine refrigerator/freezer temperature logs for all refrigerators/freezers.
- Place order and pick up medication and vaccines from the pharmacy.
- Provides training on workflow, policy and procedure, and updates to new and existing Medical Assistants as well as students, interns, apprentices, fellows with the support of management.
- Gives intramuscular (including ventrogluteal), subcutaneous, and intradermal injections under supervision of an appropriate clinician, as ordered by physician and within practice limit.
- Accurately takes and records patient vital signs, point of care testing, and screenings. Documents activities and results in electronic medical record.
- Assists patients in preparing for medical exams and procedures.
- Assists provider with medical procedures.
- Complete treatment schedule: under supervision of an appropriate clinician, as ordered by physician and within practice limit.
- Obtain reports, consults, etc. prior to medical provider start.
- Cleaning and sterilizing instruments for use of procedures.
- Monitors and maintains supplies in all exam and team rooms on assigned floor(s).
- Verifies all exam rooms and team rooms are being stocked, expiration dates are checked, and rooms are cleaned timely and in accordance with policy and procedure and communicates status to manager, daily, weekly, monthly, etc. as per procedure. Places supply order with lab as needed.
- Ensures supply rotation and ordering to prevent over and/or under ordering of supplies.
- Timely notification to manager when supplies need to be ordered.
- Assist with coverage schedule adjustment and communication of schedule to ensure all providers always have an assigned Medical Assistant.
- Act as secondary point of contact for call outs/late arrival calls when manager is not available in order to efficiently adjust MA/provider coverage.
- Prepares and maintains exam rooms for patient visits. (i.e., paper pulled, room stocked, room clean, expired supplies/cultures discarded).
- Checks and responds to voicemails, WWH emails, and telephone encounters daily.
- Provides limited patient education around issues such as hygiene, lab results per protocol, vital signs, and self-care.
- Efficiently and accurately documents and maintains records within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) based on WWH guidelines and standards.
- Routinely participate in team and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Routinely participate in QI activities as directed needed.
- Routinely participate in trainings.
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Required
- Equivalent work experience required.
- 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant required, with experience drawing blood; medical office preferred.
- Certification or Registration as Medical Assistant
- CPR Certification
- 3 years of experience working with a broadly diverse population and ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required.
- 3 years of experience working with members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Gender Expansive, Queer, Asexual, Intersexed communities preferred.
- 3 years of experience working with people living with HIV or issues related to HIV care preferred.
