osition Summary
William James College announces openings for full-time Teaching Faculty Fellows in the Clinical Psychology Department beginning August 2026. The Fellowship offers a highly competitive salary and opportunities for career advancement at the College.
The Teaching Faculty Fellowship aims to recruit, train, and mentor recent graduates who have completed their doctoral degrees in Clinical or Counseling Psychology; and prepare new faculty to enter the nation’s professoriate. The primary aim of the Fellowship is to cultivate a strong cohort of exceptionally talented and well-trained faculty whose diverse experiences and perspectives have been underrepresented in academic settings. It endeavors to equip Fellows with the skills, knowledge, and expertise to engage in paradigm-shifting and inclusive teaching, advising, and research practices as well as in administrative and leadership positions in academia.
Applicants must be recent graduates or early career professionals with Clinical or Counseling Psychology doctoral degrees (including those who will complete their graduate studies by August 2026). We welcome candidates from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, including individuals whose perspectives have been underrepresented in academic settings, as well as those dedicated to fostering inclusive, equitable, and accessible environments and supporting historically underserved communities.
Essential Functions
Teaching Faculty Fellows are involved in teaching, advising, and research supervision of graduate students. Additionally, they participate in didactic training on inclusive teaching and learning designs, strength-based pedagogical approaches, and culturally empowering instructional strategies. Fellows actively engage in professional development, scholarly, and program evaluation activities. They also receive faculty and peer mentorship throughout their enrollment in the program. Of particular interest to the Fellowship are candidates with a background—or interest in developing expertise—in consultation, personality and cognitive assessment, program development and evaluation, and substance use disorders. We are seeking applicants with a strong interest in tackling disparities in these domains and/or whose work advances behavioral health equity for communities that have been historically overlooked or insufficiently served. Fellows may teach generalist foundational courses in the Clinical Psychology Department, including Neuropsychology, Statistics and Research, Psychometrics, and Social Bases of Behavior. We are also seeking applicants interested in teaching courses, in the Center for Multicultural and Global Mental Health, that are focused on mental health issues among Asian, Latino, Black, and immigrant populations.
Education and Experience
Applicants must possess a PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology, have completed an APA-accredited internship, have earned their degrees within the past 10 years (through August 2026), have teaching experience, preferably be licensed or license-eligible in Massachusetts, and maintain some involvement in clinical practice or consultation. A demonstrated record of scholarly work defined broadly (e.g., community engagement, educational leadership, innovation, investigation, and research) is preferred. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to fostering respectful, collaborative, and culturally responsive learning and work environments and be willing to contribute to the College’s strategic efforts to support an inclusive and welcoming campus community. Candidates must be available to teach in-person classes and participate in on-campus activities. The department welcomes applications from individuals who may have had nontraditional career paths, taken time off for family reasons, or achieved excellence in careers outside academia.
Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities and objectives of the position and the mission of the College.
Compensation Range: $65,000-$72,000 annually
This range represents the College’s good-faith estimate of the compensation for this role. Placement within the range will depend on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Typically, candidates are hired within the lower to mid-point of the range, with the upper end reserved for individuals who bring significant, directly relevant experience and fully meet or exceed the role’s requirements.
