Wills Eye Hospital is hiring a Clinical Nurse Educator in Philadelphia, PA. In this role, you’ll enhance professional practice and the provision of quality patient care by providing evidence-based quality educational programs and activities that promote professional competency for nursing, inter-professional, and non-licensed clinical staff. This is a Per Diem/ PRN opportunity for someone who wants to work under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer to assess, plan, implement and evaluate orientation, in-service education, continuing education, and competency programs.

Key Responsibilities
Identifies and collects information related to learning needs and collaborates with members of multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of effective nursing education and training programs; serves as a resource for all nursing educational inquiries and issues.
Assumes accountability for delivery of clinical education services and practices that create a patient-centered organization, driven by customer feedback and data.
Incorporates principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs.
Contributes and works collaboratively with nurse management team in support of hospital-wide improvement in meeting core measures, patient safety, and service excellence goals through clinical education.
Conducts program evaluations that measure learning impact and outcomes against strategic goals and objectives of the heath care setting to enhance the effectiveness of clinical care and employee performance.
Coordinates orientation of new staff to the organization.
Develops/coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation.
Assesses learners' progress, and interprets appropriate information necessary to revise and/or adjust orientation, competencies, lesson plans, educational activities and teaching techniques, as needed.
Contributes to competency assessment by monitoring nursing staff's knowledge and compliance, to ensure that national Patient Safety Goals are maintained, and by participating in competency validation of newly-appointed staff; maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education programs, activities, and other appropriate learning opportunities.
Serves on nursing and health care setting committees, as assigned, and develops and directs continuous quality improvement programs which achieve targeted patient quality of care outcomes.
Identifies and evaluates instructional materials in all types of media and formats.
Adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate learner needs.
Delivers competence-based programs for nursing staff with a focus upon the improvement of skills and retention of knowledge.
Maintains a system of records of in-service orientation, staff development, and educational activities; and monitors and submits all other mandatory work and regulatory reports.
Promotes cost effectiveness through implementation of efficient orientation/onboarding practices.
Incorporates organizational values/culture in educational programs, ensuring alignment with organization's policies/procedures and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Supports new ideas and innovation in educational design. Utilizes current best evidence.
Identifies resources for problem solving. Provides staff with resources and education to implement changes.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Registered Nurse (RN) PA License
5 years of nursing, clinical educator, or nursing instructor experience
Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles
Displays effective interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrates competency in teaching/learning process, organizational skills, and computer literacy
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) (a Master's Degree in Nursing may be substituted for 2 years of required experience)
Current ACLS Instructor and BLS Instructor
Operating Room circulating experience
National certifications in Nursing Professional Development desirable; eligible staff will achieve certification within two years of being hired into the department
