The Wilson County Health Department is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurse II – Occupational Health (OSHA Nurse) to join our team. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
A.Clinic Responsibilities: - 55% of the time
1.Work as needed in other Health Department clinics and programs including Family Planning, Maternity, STD, Primary Care/Adult Health, Child Health, Immunizations, and Communicable Disease.
2.Obtain client histories, vital signs, measurements, obtain appropriate lab specimens, and provide counseling and education, and referral to other sources, as necessary.
3. Dispenses appropriate medications and/or vitamins and iron according to Department’s Programmatic Policies/Procedures.
4. Initiates necessary referrals as per programmatic guidelines.
5. Performs hearing and visual acuity screenings on children in the Well Child Program as per Bright Future/Child Health Program Guidelines. Refers abnormal findings as per program policy.
6. Orders appropriate lab work as per Standing Orders.
B. Employee Health/Infection Control/ OSHA Coordinator – 30% of the time
1.Preparation of and maintaining each employee’s medical file. Assures that the
employee is up to date on immunizations as required by agency’s Infection Control
plan.
2.Preparation of OSHA files – each employee is classified as a Category I, II, or III
according to OSHA guidelines.
3.Review/update OSHA trainings on all employees as required by the Department of
Labor – 29CFR Part 1910-1930 initially upon employment, yearly and when OSHA
changes occur. Assures employees abide by the agency’s Exposure Control Plan
and OSHA guidelines to prevent spread of disease to clients, self, other employees
and employee’s family. Assures that employees are following OSHA guidelines and
Medical Consultant’s recommendations.
4.Assists with Fit tests for N-95 respirators as part of the Respiratory Protection Plan.
5.Assists with the education of employees regarding the Emergency Evacuation Plan
and the Emergency Shelter Plan.
6. Responsible for annual review/update of the Infection Control and Employee Health Program manuals. This includes ensuring that the program policies and procedures are current and that any changes are incorporated into the
manual as well as communicated to the staff.
7.Assists with outreach activities for health promotion and/or other Health Department events, which occur within the community.
8.Chairs the Wilson County annual Employee Wellness Extravaganza.
C. Other Clinical Responsibilities and Duties – 10% of the time
1. Actively participates in all program and record audits, as scheduled.
2.Attends required staff trainings on OSHA, CPR, and HIPAA as scheduled, as well
as other continuing educational programs.
3.Stay updated in all areas of nursing practice by attending workshops, in-services,
and reading new textbooks, periodicals, and guidelines issued by program
coordinators, state and regional consultants. Maintains required continuing
education hours.
4.Maintains required personnel records, such as time and travel.
5.Helps maintain a safe working environment.
6.Assigned duties related to Bioterrorism and Emergency Response activities, to
include staffing of emergency shelters.
7.Duties as assigned by the Health Director and/or his/her designee.
