Position Details
- Repair, replace, maintain and install plumbing fixtures and equipment
- Perform repair and preventative maintenance on water, gas and sanitary sewer in University buildings and grounds
- Inspect work sites and review blueprints to identify safety concerns, determine necessary equipment, and develop a plan for the necessary work
- Assemble, build, repair, and modify plumbing fixtures and equipment where necessary
- Maintain and utilize hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Performance maintenance on water, valves, traps, basins, drains, faucets, lavatories and sinks
- Review blueprints and locate underground piping in order to develop a plan or layout for the work needed
- Dismantle or cut through structural and other physical barriers in order to gain access for repairs or new installations
- Alter or rebuild plumbing fixtures or equipment as necessary and make recommendations for a new installation or replacement if necessary
- Repair damaged sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters, faucets, valves, and drinking fountains
- Fit gaskets, couplings, traps, and valves, and solder or weld connections to seal joints where necessary
- Work with the Facilities Management team to address maintenance needs and contribute to a collaborative environment focused on improving the student living experience.
- Respond to service requests promptly, completing work orders and ensuring all maintenance issues are resolved effectively
- Adhere to safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations while performing tasks, ensuring the safety of students, staff, and the general public.
- Support Electrical and HVAC repair and maintenance as part of the Facilities Maintenance team to ensure proper function across student housing facilities.

- Manage work orders in Team Dynamix
- Communicate with team members regarding updates to work orders
- Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing tools and equipment, including spot checking, oiling, cleaning and servicing, and alerting team leads when equipment needs repair or replacement
- Develop and maintains effective relationships with others in order to encourage and support communication and teamwork.
- Communicate with fellow workers in a manner that allows work to be completed.
- Explain purpose and procedures of facilities maintenance projects in language easily understood by the customer.
- Ensure information gets to the right person within the agreed upon timeframe.
- Understand applicable policies and procedures and maintain conditions that ensure a healthy and safe working environment.
- Monitor lockout/tagout situations
- Ability to perform tasks and duties safely to avoid danger to self and others.
- Demonstrate to employees and others, safe ways to perform job tasks or use equipment.
- Always practice wearing PPE when job requires it.
- Adhere to safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations while performing tasks, ensuring the safety of students, staff, and the general public.
- Assist in maintaining fire suppression systems in campus buildings.
- Protect University property and equipment from damage during assigned work by removing furniture, wall fixtures, and equipment from work sites if possible or covering immoveable items with protective cloths, and erecting scaffolding or support structures in a manner that prevents damage.
- Restore assigned work sites to their original condition at the completion of work by removing scaffolding or support structures, drop cloths, and tarpaulins used during the project, returning furniture and equipment to their proper location, and coordinating the painting, plastering, or replacing tile(s) and other structural effects through which holes have been cut for pipes.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships on campus with clients, vendors, staff, students, colleagues, and faculty.
- Promptly and attentively respond to customer requests within established time frame.
- Perform work in the least disruptive manner.
- Assess and check with customer to ensure solution meets request.
- Identify options, develop solutions, and take action when responding to customer requests.
- Demonstrate courteous actions and follow the organization’s established protocol for customer service.
- Support general maintenance activities for Housing & Residence Life facilities, including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and painting tasks.
- Repair structures such as showers, floors, sinks, walls and carpets.
- Perform minor repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustment of locks on cabinets, closets, and desks.
- Repair door hinges, cleaning plugged key slots, changing filters on ventilating, heating, and air conditioning units.
