Posting Details
- A Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required
- ASHA CCC-SLP certification is required
- Licensure, or eligible for licensure, in Louisiana
- A minimum of five years of experience practicing as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) with a minimum of two years of experience supervising (i.e., SLPs, SLPAs, CFs, and/or SLP students) with completion of professional development in the area of supervision and/or clinical instruction
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical education and teach clinical content effectively
- Strong oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and inclusive excellence
- Write and speak English proficiently
- Commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population; and
- Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana.
- SLP Doctorate (SLP-D) preferred
- Prior college-level teaching experience in Speech Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders
- Clinical experience in speech-language pathology, particularly in linguistically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse communities
- Five years experience supervising graduate students, undergraduate students, CFs, and/or CCC-SLPs
- Administrative experience and experience with collecting and reporting data
- Experience supporting students from historically underrepresented populations and first-generation college students
- Familiarity with accreditation, assessment, and professional standards relevant to Speech-Language Pathology education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach clinical/professional coursework in their area of expertise as assigned by the Program Director/Dept. Head
- Direct clinical education (i.e., supervision) for students earning clinical contact hours
- Serve as liaison between clinical education and academic coursework
- Work with the Graduate Program Director to insure all graduate students are on track for the 400 clinical clock hours needed to graduate/ASHA certification
- Provide student mentorship and support
- Oversee the Xavier University Speech-Language and Hearing Clinic (XUSHC)
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the on-campus clinic and clinical initiatives
- Recruit cases for the XUSHC to be viable and provide breadth and depth of clinical training
- Oversee XUSHC telehealth practice · Learn and manage the CALIPSO system for clinical education documentation
- Review/Revise the XUSHC Handbook yearly or as deemed necessary
- Ensure all policies and procedures in the XUSHC Handbook are followed
- Expand and secure affiliation agreements to provide diverse clinical opportunities for our students based on population, life span, disorders, setting, location
- Coordinate and prepare students for their specific off-site interviews and placements
- Maintain documentation records of clinical supervisor’s credentials and continuing education as per the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA)
- Orient and educate on-/off-campus clinical educators as to their roles and responsibilities per mandates of CAA
- Unify and maintain practices of all clinical educators on-/off-campus
- Work with externship sites to build positive relationships and place students in the appropriate semester to ensure they meet their clinical clock hour requirements for graduation and certification
- Participate in regular co-ordination (site visits, emails, phone calls, etc.) with the externship placements to ensure continuity of education and support for Xavier students
- Oversee clinical clock hours records (with proper signatures) for all students
- Participate in departmental, university, and professional service
- Develop/Assist with development of supplemental learning seminars/experiences (previous: AAC, Craniofacial Disorders, Pediatric Feeding, LSVT/SpeakOUT, Imposter Syndrome, Trach & Vent, etc.)
- Assist with CAA reporting related to clinical education · Other duties as assigned
Departmental and University Engagement
- Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum discussions, assessment activities, program review, and other academic initiatives.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student success, professional development, and continuous improvement of the Speech Pathology curriculum.
- Assist with departmental outreach, open houses, prospective-student events, and community-engagement activities as appropriate.
- Support the mission and values of Xavier University of Louisiana through teaching, service, and collegial engagement.
- Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Department Head.
