Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Work 40 hours a week as a Medical Assistant for Premier HealthCare, performing all the responsibilities as they presently exist or as they may change due to the demands and needs of the program. Site assigned hours and days may change to ensure adequate coverage for Premier HealthCare sites.
Meet regularly for supervision to review duties and responsibilities, submitting paperwork in a timely and professional manner.
Report to the nurse manager in the absence of the staff nurse in charge of the daily operations of the site.
Document all activities in the electronic medical record system once you are trained.
Prepare medical records for the clinician, include laboratory and diagnostic reports and stamped progress notes as needed. Verify encounter forms at the conclusion of the visit/day.
Meet with patients and complete the required Intake packet/ intake updates and supporting documentation. Enter information in databases as instructed.
Escort the patients to and from the exam rooms and prepare them for the clinician’s visit.
Obtain vital signs, height, weight, BMI and waist circumference as assigned and document all information in the medical record.
Report pertinent clinical findings to the nurse or clinician as indicated.
Assist with the examination of the patient, as directed by the clinician/nurse.
Assist with therapeutic interventions to ensure patient/staff safety based on techniques learned in preservice, during orientation and ongoing training.
Perform phlebotomy on adult and pediatric patients and obtain other specimens as per clinicians’ order and in compliance with DOH and CLIA protocols. Complete laboratory specimen requests including all required information accurately and legibly. Document information accurately and completely in the medical record.
Perform EKGs as per clinician’s orders.
As assigned, enter prescription requests, form requests, etc., into the designated database and complete associated documentation (e.g., prescription fax forms). Update database accordingly.
Retrieve medical records as per clinicians 'instructions, routinely in preparation for prescription requests, etc.
Maintain overall cleanliness and organization of treatment rooms and other areas of the practice site as assigned. Remove filled sharps’ disposal units and other biohazardous waste and prepare for removal by the transporter. Replace units and supplies as needed.
Assume Receptionist, Scheduler and Registrar responsibilities as directed by the nurse manager/charge nurse.
Promote continuity of care and serve as a liaison between PHC and the patient, family, caregiver and other agencies involved in the care of the patient.
Participate in the telephone triage process to ensure that requests are appropriately made, prioritized correctly and have the necessary supporting documents prior to the first visit.
Participate in Quality Improvement activities as directed by the nurse manager/charge nurse.
Maintain databases and participate in tracking systems and inventories and as assigned by the nurse manager/charge nurse.
Comply with OSHA/CLIA regulations in the exercise of all clinical and related functions.
Report all safety and health hazards to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Assist with all emergencies as directed by the nurse manager/charge nurse or clinician.
Comply with NYSDOH regulations and protocols as stated in the PHC Policy and Procedures Manual in the exercise of all clinical and related activities.
Maintain competencies through on-site training, continuing education programs, and review of reference materials.
Performs all other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g., lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)
Prior experience working in a fast paced clinical or hospital setting.
Candidate must be willing to occasionally float to other locations for training and coverage.
Must have proficient computer skills.
Ability to understand and operate necessary computer equipment and software programs. Must be able to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions.
Must have some experience working with an EMR/EHR system.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Certified as a medical assistant in the State of New York.
Must be able to work occasional Saturdays.
Preferred Qualification Requirements ( desired requirements beyond MQRs above)
Have experience in the ID/IDD field.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm.
Pay rate: $20.00
