POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Clinical Retail Pharmacist, you will ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of medications. You will accurately interpret verbal and written prescriptions and transcribe them into computer-based patient profiles. You will ensure strict adherence to regulatory standards through meticulous documentation and record keeping of controlled substances. You will utilize your clinical expertise to focus on the medical needs of the patient and serve as a trusted resource for medication therapy management in a retail setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: including but not limited to
Ensures safe, appropriate cost-effective drug therapies for patients.
- Monitors drug therapy regimens/profiles for contraindications, interactions (drug-drug and drug-food),
allergies and appropriateness of drug and dose.
- Reads and interprets prescription information correctly.
- Detects and reports suspected Adverse Drug Reactions and errors accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggest appropriate, effective, safe, cost effective, therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
- Provides drug education to patients and their families.
- Documents all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely.
Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the Pharmacy service.
- Participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities.
- Collects data, maintains logs, records and other documentation as assigned.
- Supervises and directs Pharmacy support personnel in addition to maintaining full oversight of the pharmacy and gift shop in the absence of the pharmacist in Charge.
- You will help keep the pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well organized.
- You will answer the telephone in an appropriate and timely manner.
- You are punctual and dependable, reporting to work as scheduled.
- Attends, participates, and/or chairs a hospital committee.
- Partners with the Pharmacist Charge to ensure pharmacy operations are always compliant with the Maine State Board of Pharmacy regulations, escalating issues or concerns to the Pharmacy Manager and The Director of Pharmacy.
- Supports effective inventory management using best practices.
- Participate in the development of orientation, education, and training programs for new technicians.
Maintains competency required for the job.
- Maintains current state of Maine pharmacy license.
- Completes all CEU requirements for licensure.
- Attends Pharmacy Services team meetings.
- Attends required orientation, education, and training programs.
- Reviews literature and other materials pertinent to the practice of pharmacy. Maintains relevant clinical and technical skills for the job as the industry evolves; actively seeking opportunities to expand knowledge to better support patients.
- Completes all required computer-based training.
- Utilizes appropriate listening skills to effectively care for patient needs.
- Be able to identify challenging patient and/or colleague interactions and choose the best course of action.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
- Must work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff and physicians.
- Must be able to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and schedule.
- Must provide exceptional customer service.
- Must maintain confidentiality of personal health information
- Must effectively communicate and foster a team approach to care.
Schedule: Full time is 40 hours/wk. The retail pharmacy is open from 9am to 7pm Monday through Friday. Work shifts may vary in accordance with customer service and Pharmacy team staffing needs. Part time and/or per-diem hours will involve scheduling to cover shifts and responsibilities that are not covered by the full-time Pharmacists. May cross train in hospital pharmacy as well.
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with BS or PharmD degree.
- Experience: One year of retail Pharmacy experience preferred but not required.
- Licensure: Active, unrestricted license to practice in Maine.
- Certifications: Active National Provider (NPI); APHA immunization certification and BLS required.
- Regulatory: Must not be on the DEA excluded parties list.
- Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers. May require some lifting, pushing and carrying of light loads. Stooping and kneeling. Standing for long periods of time may be necessary.
- Occupational Hazards: Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances. Potential for muscle and/or skeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used.
