The Master Mechanic oversees, performs, and coordinates advanced maintenance and repair activities for a fleet of heavy‑duty trucks and related equipment. This role ensures all vehicles remain safe, reliable, and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations. The Master Mechanic serves as the technical expert for diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs, while supporting operational readiness and minimizing equipment downtime.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Maintenance & Repair
- Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, braking systems, and chassis components.
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance to extend equipment life and reduce breakdowns.
- Complete major component rebuilds, including engines, transmissions, differentials, and hydraulic assemblies.
- Ensure all repairs meet OEM specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the subject‑matter expert for all mechanical issues affecting the fleet.
- Provide guidance, training, and oversight to mechanics, helpers, and shop personnel.
- Review and approve complex repair plans, ensuring accuracy and cost‑effectiveness.
- Support the development and implementation of maintenance procedures and quality‑control practices.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain strict adherence to OSHA, DOT, EPA, and manufacturer safety standards.
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure all equipment is compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Document all maintenance activities accurately in accordance with company policies and audit standards.
Operational Support
- Prioritize and schedule repairs to support operational needs and minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with supervisors, dispatch, and operations teams regarding equipment status and repair timelines.
- Assist in evaluating equipment condition and recommending replacement, refurbishment, or upgrades.
Inventory & Asset Management
- Oversee parts inventory, ensuring availability of critical components.
- Track usage, maintain accurate records, and support cost‑control initiatives.
- Recommend tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop improvements to enhance efficiency.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in heavy‑duty truck maintenance and repair, typically 7–10+ years.
- Master‑level certifications preferred (e.g., ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician).
- Strong proficiency with diagnostic software, electronic control systems, and modern repair technologies.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and OEM documentation.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to mentor junior mechanics.
- Valid CDL (Class A or B) preferred or ability to obtain.
Pay: From $50,000.00 per year
