- Provides leadership, coordination, and supervision of the District's school health services program and health office operations.
- Supervises and evaluates school nurses, health aides, and other assigned health office personnel in accordance with District procedures.
- Analyzes District health policies, procedures, and practices and makes recommendations to improve school health services and student health outcomes.
- Coordinates districtwide compliance with communicable disease prevention protocols and public health guidance in accordance with IDPH and CDC recommendations.
- Assists school personnel in implementing procedures related to emergency medical response, student health needs, medication administration, and chronic health conditions.
- Develops and provides professional development, orientation, and clinical supervision for registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, health aides, and other school personnel as appropriate.
- Participates in the development, review, and revision of District health services procedures, protocols, handbooks, and operational standards.
- Oversees required health screenings and monitors compliance related to vision, hearing, immunizations, physical examinations, and other state-mandated health requirements.
- Identifies student health concerns and facilitates referrals, follow-up services, and coordination of care with families and medical providers when appropriate.
- Monitors medication administration and health treatments provided in schools to ensure compliance with current ISBE, IDPH, and applicable legal requirements.
- Coordinates and completes required state and federal health compliance reporting for the District, including reports related to health services, and screenings.
- Maintains current knowledge of changes in ISBE, IDPH, and federal laws, regulations, and guidance related to school health services and communicates updates to appropriate staff.
- Assists with annual updates to student health procedures, parent/student handbooks, and District health-related policies and protocols.
- Collaborates with administrators, families, community agencies, and medical providers to support student health and wellness.
- Provides consultation and guidance to administrators and staff regarding student health concerns, attendance-related medical issues, and medically necessary accommodations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education related to the responsibilities of the position.
- Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois required. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with School Nurse Endorsement preferred.
- Minimum of three years of successful experience as a school nurse preferred.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of ISBE, IDPH, IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and other applicable laws and regulations related to student health services.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, coordinate districtwide systems, and maintain confidential information.
- Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to effectively work with students, staff, parents, medical professionals, and community agencies.
